Reminds me of an account I read of the initial engagement of the First Crusaders with the forces of Islam.
It seems that an advance party, led by Bohemund, had found and engaged the main army of the Moslems at/near an oasis. Though badly outnumbered, Bohemund and his force held their own, until the vanguard of the Crusader army, commanded by Godfrey of Bullion, arrived at the scene.
Godfrey of Bullion, seeing Bohemund and his force under attack by the Moslems charged down the dunes, with only 25 knights behind him. He and his small force quickly hacked their way through to stand shoulder to shoulder with Bohemund. with the rest of the Crusader main army arriving within fifteen minutes.
The Moslems were by that time, although numerically superior, in complete tactical disarray, and were finally driven from the field in headlong rout.
I knew Godfrey of Buillion became one of "The Nine Worthies" of Christian chivalric ideals, but I never knew the reason until then. It was in large part because he was stone, bat-guano crazy, but it worked...

This is the most important character quality of an individual, one whose heart is without FEAR and GREED. Such a heart believes in itself and also understands the onness in everything, and that everything in one.
