So basically the ONE selling point this thing had is off the table. As I knew it would eventually be—I just didn’t think it would be immediate.

The primary benefit of the 9% sales tax is to put everyone into the game.

So that basically negates the whole “skin in the game” talking point...

Good time to open an automated liquor store in the inner city.

Do they still have to pay social security? FICA?

i thought that was going to drop from 15 % to 9

i don't care - i still like 9-9-9 more than any other plane

just for the PIWER (of the 85,000 page tax code) that it would take away from the government

I thought it brought in the 47% who didn’t pay taxes now? 999 is a mess.

Bummer. I’m all for a regressive tax. At least some folks start paying, thus taking the temptation to have productive folks to “pay their fair share” off the table.

This plan is falling apart so fast I can’t keep track.

First it was 999, then it some opportunity zones it would be more like 333, now we find out for anyone below the poverty line it will be 909 (and presumably in opportunity zones it will be 303). Before we are done all the good this plan was supposed to achieve will be wiped out.

So . . . if the poor are exempt, then maybe it is a new federal tax on the middle-class and it’s not so simple after all. Cain is losing it now, he’ll drop.

No president can wave a magic wand and change the tax code. A president can ask for tax code changes and sign legislation. All tax laws originate in the House of Representative Ways and Means committee. I believe that is in the constitution.

I like the 9-9-9 plan.

I don’t know why he surrendered to the liberal media.

He should just exempt natural food(fruit, grains, beans, vegetables and meat) and housing and he would kill all the criticism about hurting the poor.

If Cain was really smart, he would replace the sales tax with a 9% tariff, and start taxing foreign capital instead of domestic consumption.

They are still paying the sales tax.

That is more than they pay now.

The simple flat tax is preferable to this bureaucratic monstrosity. Cain needs to say he would sign a flat tax if Congress passed it.

The “opportunity zones” are nonsense. “Spread YOUR jobs around” to places like Detroit. Nothing conservative about it, federal laws should apply to everyone and everywhere equally. having states beg annually some federal bureaucracy for a zone is asinine.

He’s just making this crap up as he goes along. By the time the primaries roll around God knows what the 9-9-9 plan will look like.

It’s the spending, stupid! And out of control government! Concentrate on cutting the spending, eliminating unconstitutional government departments, agencies and programs, slash the bureaucratic red tape, set our people free to produce and let the free economy soar!! Taxes will come down and we can flatten the rates once we get the spending and the abusive socialist government under control and OFF OUR BACKS!!

So who is considered poor? If someone makes one dollar more than poverty line would he/she paying sales tax? Should we shop in the crappy inner cities to avoid sales tax?

This fool is making up stuff as he goes along. What a joke.
