the gist of the matter is that Rubio’s parents saw the handwriting on the wall and fled Cuba a couple of years before Castro actually took over and became residents of the US. Rubio had made some statements about his parents being refugees from the Castro takeover so they are saying these were lies. As we all know Rubio was not even a glimmer at that point being born in the US his parents having become citizens in the meantime. The embellishments if any were likely Rubio’s parents explaining to a child why they had to leave their home and come to the US.

Duh, they were not citizens at the time of his birth, that has been posted here many times and verified. It does present a problem, about their application for papers, if they were in country, the laws applied to allow Cubans escaping Cuba after Castro, may not apply to them.
