Harry Reid: Private Sector Jobs Are Doing Just Fine, It’s Government Jobs We Need to Worry About
HUMAN EVENTS ^ | 10/19/2011 | John Hayward

Posted on 10/19/2011 11:54:51 AM PDT by mdittmar

The Democrat Party tries to cultivate an image as wise technocrats who know better than private citizens how the wealth of America should be “invested” to produce the maximum public good.  In reality, they’re a band of statist lunatics who don’t have a clue how anything in the private sector works at all.  Some of them are barely aware the private sector exists, except as a piggy bank filled with money for politicians to spend on the really important stuff.

An earlier incident I cited to prove this thesis was the astonishing spectacle of Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN) asserting that government regulations create private sector jobs, because businesses must hire people to comply with them.

Today we join Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) as he explains that, under the endless double-digit unemployment of Obamanomics, “it’s very clear that private sector jobs have been doing fine.  It’s the public sector jobs where we’ve lost huge numbers, and that’s what this legislation is all about.”

As The Hill explains, the legislation Reid refers to is Big Government’s latest attempt to make us forget about the trillions it has already wasted, and insist that if we don’t give it more money to spend, cops and teachers will get the axe:

Reid was responding to comments from Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), who accused Democrats of purposefully pursuing higher taxes as part of the teacher/first responder bill, S. 1723, so Republicans would oppose it. McConnell said the bill was meant to fail in order to give Democrats an issue to run on in the 2012 election, but Reid said the Republicans are simply trying to defeat President Obama in any way they can.

The legislation Reid's defending is part of Obama's jobs package. Vice President Biden was in Pennsylvania, an important election state, on Tuesday to push for the administration's plan on increasing the number of teachers.

Reid reiterated his emphasis on creating government jobs by saying Democrats are looking to "put hundreds of thousands of people back to work teaching children, have more police patrolling our streets, fire fighters fighting our fires, doing the rescue work that they do so well… that's our priority." He said Republicans are calling the bill a "failure" because they are "using a different benchmark for success than we are."

My “benchmark of success” is the one where government shrinks, the private sector grows immensely, and Harry Reid gets to find out what private-sector employment is like after 25 years in the Senate.

Big Government is a curious beast, which wears its vital organs on the outside to protect its layers of fat. Every time a serious attempt is made to arrest the rate of spending increase by our unbelievably insolvent government – let alone make an actual spending cut – Democrats sigh and start lining cops, paramedics, and teachers up against the wall.  It’s a stupid game Americans should have forced them to stop playing fourteen trillion dollars ago.

Instead of telling us how efforts to restrain today’s out-of-control deficit spending are unthinkable because they’d wipe out jobs created by yesterday’s out-of-control deficit spending, Harry Reid should explain why he refuses to take a little money from somewhere else in a $3 trillion federal monster that spends $1 trillion more than the $2 trillion it already seizes from the American people, and hire those cops and teachers he’s so interested in.  Why were Obama’s “green energy” boondoggles more important than all these vital public servants we need to hire?

Meanwhile, the Republicans should send Reid a thank-you card for cutting such a wonderful campaign commercial for their 2012 Senate campaigns.

Can I hope Harry’s worried about his government job?

Keep at it Reid. You and Obama and all of your schemes are simply ensuring a larger and larger route in 2012.

Obama's entire effort has been to grow the government and the jobs in government...whcih have expanded significantly the last 3 years.

In fact, the fact that so few private sector jobs have been created (you know, the ones that actually produce something) is why things continue to get worse and worse. We are holding up and repressing private sector productive jobs for public sector jobs that continue to just suck the economy dry.

But that is Obama's purpose and a main stay of his "fundamental change."

SEIU must be squeezing Harry’s neck, so little blood flows to his brain.

Boycott Harrahs Casinos. If not for Harrahs Reid would be retired. Do not ever set foot in Harrahs!

Reid, Obama and the rest of the idiot Democrat leadership are out for themselves and their power by being reelected time after time.

They cannot care a fig about the average American when saying the private sector is OK and the public sector needs more of your tax money and more debt for your kids and grand kids to pay off.

Unemployment in the private sector is way too high and growing. Lowes closed a building center store in our area and is closing 19 others nation wide. Drive around and you will see empty stores and space in strip malls and stand alone business properties. Even businesses with cash on hand are not using it to grow or hire as they fear a further downturn or know the regulation and tax climate is just not conducive to expansion.

Once a white liberal reaches a certain age and the brain slows down a micro fraction they go from just being a lunatic thieving bastard to a doddering slobbering imbecile in an instant.

Reid is possibly a bigger idiot than Biden, and it’s an effort for me to say that.

Government jobs equal deficit. Private jobs equal revenues. Moving government jobs to the private sector means a better economy.

Hey Harry!
The government jobs you and this administration have created are the very definition of “Non-Value Added”!
Those regulators and bureaucrats each stifle PRODUCTIVE, ENERGY PRODUCING, VALUE ADDED jobs at about a 100:1 ratio!
This means that for every one of your government bureaucrats we fire, 100 private sector jobs are created.
So, if we just fire about 140,000 of you clowns, America can have full employment!

No Mr. Hairy.... You won’t need to worry about government jobs until 2013.

Even then... you will not need to worry.

You will need to be afraid... VERY Afraid!

The only private sector job HR is qualified for, is selling his influence to a foreign power against the interests of Americans.

‘Reid is possibly a bigger idiot than Biden,...’

Oh for sure. Many of his public interviews get stuffed by the media b/c theyre SO bad. They get chopped into sounds bytes so you dont see how cosmically inept the man is. Its pretty much this way for all the dems. The press covers up the sad truth. These guys/gals are failing in a monumental manner.
