Grocery Stores will not pay tax. Just little ole you going in to buy your loaf of bread will be paying tax.

Are you unable to comprehend basic English?

VAT = on each level of “value added” production

999 = not on each level of “value added” production

What do you not understand?

Eliminating the tax-code eliminates Washington from picking winners and losers. Everybody pays 9%. No more of GE paying nothing.

The tax only triggers at point of sale, rather than getting taxed at every step along the way from production → distribution → sale. Now, instead of dealing with dozens of arcane embedded taxes, you deal with 1 single visible tax. What is so prohibitive about this?

Umm, this isn’t hard, but all taxes in this country are paid by the consumer. The growers and processors and bakers have never paid any tax.......their buyers and customers have. The taxes that GE and Starbucks and GM and Microsoft pay? All from the pockets of their customers. That, most exceedingly simple and obvious, is why any and all tax increases are on the vast middle and consuming class. The rich don’t pay anything. You and I do.

Do not turn this into a religious thing. It’s hollow, petty, and boundless. It’s also the refuge of those without any other excuse. You debase yourself and your argument when saying such things.

Marty, you live in Texas. We have a state sales tax. The state tax is 6.25%, but most municipalities add another 2%, making the total 8.25%. Sales taxes are charged only on retail sales.

A VAT is charged on every transaction -- from farmer to processor, from processor to baker, from baker to merchant and from merchant to consumer. A retail sales tax is charged only on the last transaction, sale to the end-user -- it's not a VAT.

The 9-9-9 plan includes a 9% federal sales tax. It would be charged only on retail sales to the end-user -- just like the state sales tax. It is not a VAT.
