Not to argue... but IMHO... 23 million listeners and the left always bitching about the republicans listening to Rush, sort of negates your thesis. I contend that Rush is the most influential conservative in America today.

I used to think so, too. I thought for sure McCain would never survive the primaries, let alone win them, because Rush had steadily told his 23 million listeners what a dangerous boob McCain really was.

I am sad to say that I'm realizing that Rush's supposed influence is as much a media illusion as the so-called popularity of liberals and Obama.

I love Rush, Levin, and Larry Elder. If I could vote for them, I would. I have, however, recently come to grips with the reality that volume and power are two decidedly different things. Rush, Levin, and Elder have volume. Pelosi, Reid, and Obama have POWER. Elected power. When Rush or Levin or Elder are voted in to office, then their influence as conservatives will be effective, just as Reagan was one of the most influential conservatives in American history because HE WAS ELECTED.

But until then, just because the left bitches that I listen to Rush ... well, I bitch that the left listens to CNN. It's a wash.
