(Got enough of them in my extended family.)

Me too, but I don’t consider them bigots that hate catholics. In my case, they have serious problems with the Catholic organization and the Pope specifically, and have some good scripture references to back it up.

IOW, they make a fairly reasonable case. I don’t agree with them, but they are not the crazies some would have you believe. Then again, my family is not yours. :-D

Since the Catholic Church wrote and protected scripture from the beginning, you might give the scripture citation for the Papacy (Matt 16:18) and then ask why there is an unbroken line of 265 popes from St.Peter to the current Pope if the Holy Spirit did not inspire it. See what they say. Remind them that bishops, the Eucharist, etc., proceeded the Canon of Sacred Scripture as we know it today.
