If we can get 60 in the Senate and keep the house, it really doesn’t matter who is in the White House. Just someone to cheer up the masses and sign the bills. Cain or Perry will do just fine.

I was thinking along those lines myself. Maybe that would be enough to keep Newt in check if he were to be President.
Roger that. A clone of Hitler could take the White House and it we have the Hill it won’t matter.
Oh wait!!
And a few more good guys in the House would help.

chesty — of course it DOES matter who is in the White House!
Remember the aging Supreme Court justices. Congress can’t nominate replacements.
All those other appointments, too.
And executive orders, much overused but still an effective way to bypass the legislative branch.
Not to mention duties as Commander-in-Chief. It truly does matter who sits in the Oval Office in case of national emergency.
Let’s just work to take both houses AND the WH, OK?
I disagree. The next president will probably nominate one or two Supreme Ct justices. I want a Conservative Republican doing that.
There is pretty much zero chance we’ll get 60 in Senate. I’m not even convinced we retake the Senate. We’ll keep the House though.
