“not coming after you or anything” followed by “you re full of crap” - now nice.

If you must know - I spent 14 years as a public school band director, I have a Bachelor degree in Music (BME), and hold the Master of Arts in Religion degree. I currently serve as a church pastor - where I encounter many “stories”, both from within our church body and from the public seeking help.

I have also, when I was “unemployed”, done carpentry, drywall, concrete work, and other jobs to make ends meet. I have seen many others also adjust and apply themselves. I have also seen many people fall flat after setting themselves up for a fall. And I have seen people hurting and out of work for a long time due to no real fault of their own - some very good people with very real skills. I have noticed that the people around here with the most trouble finding new jobs are those with lots of experience and/or training, and who are “older” - over 50 or 60. They are “overqualified” for many jobs that are available. The key for most of them who have been successful in finding a job - is leveling with the prospective employer - selling themselves.

I don’t know the details of your situation. I do know that you have time to argue your point here on FR - seems that maybe that same anger, energy, and zeal could be better aimed at doing/finding some kind of avenue to earn income. I am not “full of crap” - I have seen what I have posted about. I have seen people in difficult situations, and I have seen both those who “give up” and blame everyone else, and have seen those who refuse to give up. And I have helped (as has our church) quite a few people who needed help (and references, and coaching). There are avenues to stretch the dollar. There are things we can give up. But I imagine my post will get little more than eye-rolling and a terse response that I am “full of crap”.

Now I have to go and “earn” my salary so you can get your unemployment extension.

Revisited this thread after some time. Hmm, how convenient! You have a government job! You are safe with Obama’s stimulus money! You will retire young, and get a government check and great benefits for life! How nice, and hypocritical for you! Some of us have to work in the private sector. Your paycheck, and wonderful benefits, are paid for by heavy tax burdens on people who could be hiring me! Get rid of your government job, could probably save enough to hire two private sector employees! This is wonderful Battman. You complain about private sector workers leaching, and you are helping to leach their jobs away. Better you keep quiet. I have a feeling your nice Degree in music (really? why does one need to get a bachelor to play music, I play 7 instruments fluently, never needed a degree) came from either a wealthy family, or huge student grants. You surely have a bad attitude for someone who was ‘carried’ their whole life, and has spent their working life collecting a government paycheck and benefits!

Oh, and a quick BTW, no extension, even YOUR community will get hit hard. If a lot of people lose their homes, property taxes will go down substantially. That’s where your paycheck comes from, correct? So will sales tax from those who are destitute. Your school will take huge budget cuts. I don’t think they will cut the Math department when those cuts come, but they will probably cut the music department. A marching band is not critical to education, it is fluff. Battman, you might just be writing your own pink slip with your opinion.
