My sense is at that time it was simply something he hadnt given due consideration to. Fair enough. Can we agree to cut Perry the same level of slack on his "heartless" comment?
While Cain has been campaigning since last December, Perry only got in last August. National politics are a little different than those here in Texas. We still have a few conservative Dems in this state --not many, of course.

The problem for Perry was that he used that term to defend a liberal policy.

Fair enough. Can we agree to cut Perry the same level of slack on his "heartless" comment? No. In one debate he suggested that those that disagreed with him were racists and basing their objections on the sound of someone's last name. Then in the next debate he said that those that disagreed with him were heartless.
BIG DIFFERENCE

I certainly would, the reason being he backed off it himself. I think we are entirely too critical across the board. How many times have all of us been misunderstood, and had to clarify what we said or why we said it?
These candidates are only human - they say things that don't always come out the way they wanted to. I don't judge anyone on one statement unless it seems that it truly does reflect a core value. Now if someone wants to make the case that Perry's 'heartless' comment did reflect a core value, fine. I don't know enough about him to have an opinion one way or the other, and frankly don't care. Not because he might not be an excellent, or even the best nominee, but because I don't think he will be.
