Video/Governor Palin: “[Crony Capitalism] Is What We Must Defend Our Country Against”
Conservatives4Palin ^ | 10/8/11 | Governor Sarah Palin

Posted on 10/09/2011 7:03:43 AM PDT by BCrago66

This is Governor Palin's speech in St. Louis on Oct. 7th, her first speech since her announcement that she's not running for president. I think, based partly on this speech, that Palin will a significant influence on who the Republicans nominate for President. There's a great deal of substance here about "crony capitalism," and also an intriguing suggestion that some sub-set of the Occupy Wall St. movement might be susceptible to her critique of crony capitalism, and might be open to actual, non-crony capitalism. But she also suggests that these protesters "please just, eat a bacon double cheeseburger and maybe be a little bit happy, some of you folks on Wall St., protesting." (There's no clock on the video, but these last remarks are at about the 80% mark.)

I was listening to David Horowitz last week. He says one of the problems the right has is in how to use descriptive terms.

The Wall Street occupiers at this moment are using that. Look how many signs down there denounce capitalism.

How many peope pay attention to the “crony” in front?

So calling it it in the proper leftist term takes it for what it really is and ruins their use of the term.

On this point, she's exactly correct. As much as I've complained about the spoiled brats that are protesting outside the Federal Reserve building in Chicago (I work directly across the street from it, and have to walk through these crowds every day) there is some number of folks in that particular crowd that are singularly focused on the message around Corporate control of Government and Government intervention in the free market.

When I've stopped and talked to these individuals, who are easily identified by the signs they're holding, their reasoning for being there is as sound as anyone's on this forum that complains about "crony capitalism" and Obama's meddling in our free market system.

The point I make in return to them is all about being careful about who they allow to surround them, lest their message be drowned out. I quickly point to the union presence in these crowds as being there purely for the purposes of getting Obama re-elected, and other left-wing radical organizations like "Families United" which are pro-union, pro-illegal immigration. (Talk about a conflicting message there!)

Bottom line is I think she's right that a fair amount of the "occupy wall street" crowd might be open to actual, non-crony capitalism.

The rest are nothing more than Union thugs and spoiled rich brats wasting their college education money. Won't mommy and daddy be proud of Junior come Christmas break!

Dad: So tell me Junior, why are your grades all F's this semester?

Junior: I was out protesting for the cause Dad! By the way,I'm broke, can I borrow your American Express Black Card?

By the way, a true story here:

I stopped and talked to one of the Chicago Police officers on Thursday morning on my way into the office. I asked why the City was allowing these protesters to block sidewalks, impeding access to those of us who are trying to get to work. I then suggested the lot of 'em could use a "hosing down" and some mace to stench the smell.

After he chuckled at that suggestion, he told me about the protester that they'd arrested on Tuesday of this week for starting a fight.

It seems "Junior" had an iPhone, iPad, several MP3 Players, a Mac Laptop with an Air Card and Daddy's American Express Black Card on him.

I had no idea what an American Express Black card is until the nice Chicago Police Officer told me: It's AMEX's ultimate card for their customers who spend $100,000 or more a month. I was flabbergasted.

It also confirmed what I've been thinking about many of these "protesters" ... a bunch of spoiled rich kids protesting the very system that enables them to live the freeloading life they lead.

I've now termed them the FLEA Party:

Freeloading
Liberals
Enabling
Anarchy
Given how smelly some of them are and how long it's been since their last good bath/shower, I think FLEA is appropriate.

“Will this speech get any press at all?”

Should it? Not really. Most people are not sitting around waiting for speeches from non-players.

I’ve just surfed my normal haunts for news this morning. This thread is the only place I saw it mentioned.

Nobody who admires her, which obviously includes herself, could possibly believe she will be MORE significant or useful in obscurity than she would have been in the race.

Quitting before starting certainly was not the cure for her somewhat deserved rep as a quitter.

To blame the existence of one’s family for a decision not to play is nothing new. And nothing inherently admirable.

Who doesn’t have a family? Should we all choose not to run who belong to a family? Are the things Sarah has spoken passionately about not important enough to her family to continue the fight? If protecting her specific family from the public spotlight is THAT important why did it take literally years of enduring and capitalizing on said spotlight to make the decision?

And the suggestion that she will be more free to say what she pleases if she does not run is poppycock. That only suggests that others of strong opinion should also not officially participate. Or that she doesn’t really believe in her own message because she feels she’d need to soften it to win.

I did not support her entry into the ring because I thought she’d be another great moderate voice. But she’s apparently using that assumption as an excuse to wimp out.

“Crony capitalism” should be referred to as Federal or State prostitution. Fascist corporatism is central planning not capitalism.

Big government is the enabler and the protesting hypocrites on Wall Street that think Marx/Engelss had a lot of the answers are the biggest promoters of the totalitarian system. Marx understood the marriage of government and corporation would result in oppression, but his alternative was even more oppression.

Get the government out of the "influencing" part and more of the objective judicial overseer. Of course, that means individuals, the Corporate Board (Who seek to socialize their loses) as well as the "poor", need to be more responsible for their choices.

Oh the horrors of that./s

Excellent post and noteworthy as most of you posts are. You are a keen observer of personality.

“I think FLEA is appropriate.”

I agree.

That is what we call Dems here in WI since they fled the state (toward Chicago, coincidentally) attempting to stop Gov Walker’s now successful plan to break the union strangle hold on k-12 education.

I’m on a low bandwidth connection this weekend; anybody got a link to the speech only? Don’t really want to wait for the buffer to fill up to watch a local radio jock throw t shirts to the crowd.

BuddhaBrown, I’d suggest that you compare what you’ve done for cause of liberty, to what Palin has done and is continuing to do; if you give the matter some thought, that might prompt you to clamp it the next time you feel the urge to engage in cogitation-free criticism.

Palin will continue to be influential, and will, at a minimum, help secure the election (and re-election) of Congressmen and Senators that we’ll need to reverse Obama’s America-destroying policies.

“Even Romney - and I’m not a fan - is far better than Obama”

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7OQoBxZZPqU&feature=player_embedded

When you see videos like the one above it is not clear that Romney is better than Obama. The Democrats have been winning the battle for big government by shaping the Republican field. Liberal Republicans have blurred the line between what should be the conservative party and the democrats, resulting in many who sit out of the election process. Romney means there is no choice in government; either we get a Democrat that pushes us toward collapse at full speed or we get a Republican like Romney that pushes toward collapse at a slightly slower speed. Either way big government wins, and we the people, lose. The only way to change the political environment is to reject liberal candidates so the American people can finally have a clear choice between socialism or American democracy as envisioned by our founding fathers.

Romney is a useful tool for democrats to push for bigger government and to ensure the blame gets placed evenly on both parties when it ends badly.

Sorry “...but his alternative was even more oppression.” Should be “the” instead of “his”.

Marx was a flamethrower for stating the obvious, but his "solutions" were thin and idiotic. Unfortunately solutions became even more idiotic once the “drug” of “intellectualism” becomes ingrained into the “blood stream” of academics.

The Democrats have been winning the battle for big government by shaping the Republican field.

Seems like our best candidate, already did that. No dem shaping needed. Our own side is doing it now.

Obama is initiating central planning. Why do you miss it?

Central planning for all.

Obama will save us all and he will manipulate everything to make it happen.

Interventionism, is the first step. Being done as we speak.

A new world order is global central planning. Anyone who knows the nature of a human knows it won’t work, but people will get rich and people will die. Power is all it is about.

“...observer of personality.”

Well, I’ve never been accused of that before, but thanks!

I usually pretend to be interested only in the principle and logic bits of political thought. But in some cases message and personality bubble to the top. You might wish to re-measure my keen, but here’s a rouge observation regarding Sarah’s overall fruits to belabor.

Granting Palin’s own animalistic analogies concerning her relative prowess... minding my own adherence to logic... and reconciling both with the undeniable facts of today... the lesson for the kids out must be that:

When you encounter a mother grizzly bear, don’t panic. Just go ahead and eat all the damn blue berries yourself because apparently her instinct will be toward defensive contemplation, ambiguous bluff and eventual retreat.

BuddhaBrown, to the extent that you have any reputation, it’s to do zero to advance the cause of liberty, but to try (and fail) to shoot down those who have spearheaded a broad-based movement to take our country back. We will succeed, despite the desultory & pathetic whining of a million BuddaBrown characters, who - again - never actually do anything of note.
