It was either deliberate or reflexive. I’m not sure which one is worse in a would-be national politician.

It’s funny, but when I get accused of being emotional because I am analyzing a situation, it always strikes me as odd. I am not emotionally vested in Perry either way, and offer adult analysis of his performance, and yet I’m the one who needs to grow up?

Your support of him is quite clear. I’m not certain your approach to fostering support in others will be effective. Most rational people don’t take well to indignant lectures.

In the end, my opinion of Perry will be formed on the basis of his positions and his performance as a candidate. So far, he’s in the running.

If you are whining complaining about his 'heartless' remark, yes. Sometimes people say things that ruffle our feathers. The immature will focus on their feelings as if their feelings are central to everyone else's life.

They aren't.

Originally I liked, and still like Cain. Some view Cain's inexperience as an asset; I see it as a huge hurdle to getting anythng done in DC.

Newt, is probably the smartest and most articulate, however no one seems to see him as President.

Bachman has great ideas but seems to willing to spread gossip and go off based on rumor and that is quite unsettling to me, a major character flaw.

Palin really doesn't have a record to compare against Perry. No one in their right mind would consider her 2 years in Alaska any where near equivalent to Perry's 10 years in Texas. And fyi, Palin was able to get me to vote for McCain, whom I detest more than Obama. Thank God McCain didn't win! We'd have his silly ass policies and be forced to support them for the sake of party unity!!

Anyway...

My 'support' of Perry stems from actually reading the counter points to the anti-Perry smears that have been posted and then applying some common sense and reasoning to get past the sound bytes and cliches.

With gardasil it seems that the long and short of it was a desire to make the vaccines available and covered by insurance. He did it in a way that offended the Legislature and a lot of other people. He got his wrist slapped, he learned and moved on. There is no evidence that there was any unethical or illegal influence. If there was, it would be out in the open by now.

Regarding in state tuition, forget Perry's personal wishes for the moment. The voice of the people via the Legislature was nearly unanimous in passing this law. It was veto proof. He could either inject his personal objections and move against the will of the people, against the voters and not change a damn thing, or support the wishes of the people.

In America, we elect representatives, and not leaders, especially 'leaders' who govern against the will of the people.

So in that sense, Perry would have no choice, would he?

The simple fact is that under 2% of the enrolled are illegals paying instate tuition, and it is just silly to think that illegals move their families into Texas or the other similar states for the purpose of instate tuition AT LEAST 3 years down the road!

If the Feds stopped subsidizing illegals and if the Feds enforced existing laws, and if the feds did their jobs at the border then there wouldn't be any need to even discuss this issue, would there?

Something I have discovered in my two weeks on Free Republic is that whenever someone posts something with extremely outragous and inflammatory language, it is best to read the whole article, look at primary sources and make a decision bases on those without an agenda.

Perry's main critics on FR have an agenda and they have no hesitated to use the lowest, dirtiest, and cheapest of tactics to promote their agenda. It isn't that they disagree with Perry; they want to destroy him. Heck, I moved here to Texas and was immediately faced with the prospect of 'forcing' my young 12 year old daughter to be vaccinated, then all of a sudden the issue died and I was again ok. It wasn't until a few weeks ago that I learned WHY the EO was issued. All I knew is that I disagreed with the I was so outraged about in state tuition that I sent a very nasty letter to the college and even more upset that they never replied. Whether or not illegals got in state sis not change the fact that my family did not yet qualify as residents and therefore did not qualify for in state tuition. Now we do, now we only pay what the illegals pay!

Neither of those issues matter to me. Getting the opposite of Obama in office matters to me.

I have had two of the growth jobs in Texas since 2007 and neither are minimum wage. I have personally seen how business friendly this state is, especially compared to some other states I've lived in.

I wish Perry had ideas and spoke as clearly as Newt, was black like Cain, and had great legs like Palin. But he doesn't. He's a pro life, pro gun, pro business white man that sometimes is inarticulate.
