Why is it crazy? If Gov Palin becomes a king maker and Cain seeks the endorsement of the tea party, there’s nothing to prevent the Tea Party from appointing Gov Palin as a sort of ombudsman to keep an eye on the POTUS and insure that he doesn’t go off the rails.

Yes there is. The U.S. Constitution. There is no role for an extra-constitutional ombudsman.
