I'm not at all obsessed with Perry. I was a bit obsessed with the smears that you rabid Palin supporters kept spreading even after posters like me countered with facts.

If Herb Cain is the guy, great! He hasn't convinced me yet, and he's not at all experienced, but since he is up in the polls, the next debate should be interesting, since he will likely get many of the attacks from Bachman, Santorum, and the other Romney sycophants. I wish Herb well, but I'm uncertain if he has the political bona fides to actually pull off the nomination over Romeny. I do realize that you, and other Palin supporters, cannot possibly support Perry at this point, based on the Gardisil/heartless/crony capitalism attacks by Bachmann, Palin, and other.

Oh, and Palin is now just a member of the media, right?

I wasn’t part of that group flinging insults though I do think both sides were responsible. I simply don’t understand the concept of going on threads for the sole purpose of snarking and degrading people, especially if you know it’s just going to cause problems. If you check my posts you’ll see that I spent a lot of time urging people to stop. So when you say “you rabid Palin supporters” that also insults me and I tried to stay out of the fray.

Sure, I’m disappointed but I think it will turn out to be another smart decision on her part. We do need to get more conservatives at all levels of government and she’s a tireless campaigner that draws large crowds and can really fire them up. And as I’ve said before (though not totally seriously, but still) I’d love to see her be Secretary of State. The left would twist their panties in a wad and she wouldn’t be a patsy at the UN. I actually think she’d be wasted as a senator because I think she’s needed nationally.

The Gardisil isn’t a big deal to me. If I had a daughter I’d probably have her take it. My concerns with Perry are how is he going to square his illegal immigrant policies in TX with being a border hawk (it’s what we need). I wasn’t wild about the “heartless” remark but he does get tongue tied and probably wouldn’t have said it if he could think more quickly. Hopefully he’s practicing. And I’d like to understand why he’s breaking a promise to his state...he said this several times at one debate). It may be a very principled reason but this is as big a deal breaker for me as the Palin resigning thing is for others. I’m impressed she put her state ahead of her career. She had to know it would damage her. And since then she’s been a real asset to us.

I have my concerns about Cain too but he seems more conservative than Perry. However, if you think about it, they have complementary skills: one is from government, one from the private sector, etc. I think they would be an unbeatable team (of course I also thought Palin would get into the race so my political instincts probably aren’t that sharp). Anyway, there’s a lot to think about now. I’m sure some of the people supporting second tier candidates will be disappointed.
