One of my friends is half-Filippino and has been talking with some of his family there. They are extremely concerned about the situation, primarily due to the fact that their navy is geared toward counterinsurgency ops in the south, with a little bit of anti-poaching patrols mixed in.

One of Art's uncles is captain of a fishing boat and he has had a couple of encounters with Chinese vessels in what should be Filippino waters. They sweep in, ignoring international laws, and gut the fishing grounds, then take off before the Philippine Navy can arrive. And if the Navy is lucky enough to get there in time, they usually find themselves facing a PLAN frigate or destroyer that "just happened" to be conducting exercises nearby.

The lone “frigate” that was given by the US was a former US Coat Guard cutter, that was fixed under the Armed Forces Agreement between the 2 countries.

Also not a lot of people know this but there is a US Spec Ops FOB in the Southern Philippines and RP Congress has been questioning their presence there in a combat role. Accdg to the agreement, they are not supposed to be in combat roles but the US in a wink, states they are just there to advise the Philippine Army. The Chicoms already know that Bambam is a wuss as well.
