What happens to the US companies that do business in China and have built factories there? Economic warfare would cut both ways and then the world economy would split apart and force China and the US into conflict. Hopefully the conflict would be like the Cold War, but it could get heated real fast if at the beginning one side doesn't like its options.

Sorry, I should've been more clear. I was assuming hostility was imminent (< 48 hours and everyone knew it) or shooting had already begun.

NO cheers, unfortunately.

China has its own vulnerabilities. If a few Chinese container ships happened to sink, that might dampen their enthusiasm. Can the ChiCom Navy provide convoy escort everywhere? And if one sinks, can they be sure who did it?

Three Gorges Dam and seaports are the only target worth hitting.

Don't forget Hainan Island. It make take a couple of B-2's dropping four MOP's(Massive Ordinance Penetrator) to get to the sub pens there, but it's one of the reasons that W signed off on the $800 million emergency allocation to have the necessary modifications done to allow the B-2 to fly them.

I understand what you are saying. I have wondered at what would happen if the US decided to strategically default on certain portions of the debt it owes. That would be an interesting and destabilizing option.

>How he got pulled into a leadership position is beyond me.<

Very simple: it was the family name Aquino. When former RP prez Corazon Aquino died within the year, there was a massive emotional connection to People Power and the family name was what his party and he used to attain the presidency. But accdg. to long time rumors, he is clinically insane, lazy and gives up easily.

I have the weekly pinoy publications and my sis-in-law gathers them on the weekends so I am up-to-date. There are countless Freepers in the RP too..

The lone “frigate” that was given by the US was a former US Coat Guard cutter, that was fixed under the Armed Forces Agreement between the 2 countries.

Also not a lot of people know this but there is a US Spec Ops FOB in the Southern Philippines and RP Congress has been questioning their presence there in a combat role. Accdg to the agreement, they are not supposed to be in combat roles but the US in a wink, states they are just there to advise the Philippine Army. The Chicoms already know that Bambam is a wuss as well.

That must be a helluva community you RP Freepers have over there. It’s got problems, I know, but the Philippines are a gorgeous piece of the world.

“I guess kicking us out of Subic was a bad idea..”

I’m not sure they were really all that important. This is a resource conflict, the first of many China is starting to feed its insatiable domestic appetite. It is critical to our long term economic peace that they lose this conflict badly enough as to insure that anther does not arrive.

If China needs resources she should be buying them from other country’s. To that end let us take the side of our former colony and long time friend the Philippines. Send the U.S. Navy and make sure them Chinese military boats are intimidated.

When China sees our resolve they will back down, there will be no war. If on the other hand they are successful in taking by force theses resources whats next for them down the line when they are even more powerful?

The Rest of the pacific? When their power has eclipsed our own will they invade Canada, or the United States?

No this must be stopped here and now. China must be forced to learn to uses other methods to acquire what she needs before its too late for the rest of us to teach her. Protect the Philippines send whatever navy assets needed to insure China knows that she can’t win by force.

If we have to go to war with China let it be now in our time while we can still win that war. Do not let this conflict continue into our children’s time when they wont be able to.

Canada for the water and for a staging base into the States.

NO cheers, unfortunately.

The water in Canada is overvalued as a natural resources by the political culture there.

1: The Cost of exporting water overseas would be far beyond the cost of desalinating ocean water.

2: The water that Canada does provide the U.S.A. is largely in rivers and if they cut that off they would be in violation of very important treaties vital to the survival of the Western State populations. That means the United States would have no choice but to go to war to stop Canada. Canada knowing she hasn’t a prary of winning, would not dare push her luck.

Canada’s real natural resources are raw materials everything from Energy to metals. Exactly the sort of thing an industrial China will need to sustain itself. Russia has theses things too, but Russia is well armed and willing to defend themselves.

Still I would say Russia faces a greater long term threat from China should this new aggressive land grabbing policy go thou.

It is somewhat curious that Russia is not taking a greater interest in the plite of theses smaller country.

Wether Russia likes it or not they too will soon enough be in the same boat. India is of course directly threatened.

I read in the last week or so that India is suddenly waking up to the fact that the Himalayas (portions of which China is disputing ownership of, with India) are the root sources for India's major rivers (i.e. water).

Curiouser and curiouser.

Cheers!
