My company does a lot of business in Italy and I can tell you, there's a lot of anti-Americanism in spots. I lived in Italy for a few years as a kid early 70's ,never encountered anti-Americanism,But it seem now that the only time europe wants anything to do with the US is when fritz or Ivan are misbehaving.(though now its more likely to be Mohammad the koran animal)
I still haven't had an Italian trip for work, but have been to Germany and England a dozen times each. The German anti-Americanism is of the smug variety. You just want to throttle them sometimes, but you can't say a word to your hosts. In England it's done with good humor and we can give it back as well. Actually fun most of the time.
When the Germans and Italians come here, they have no problem being snarky guests, and of course we have to put up with that, too.
