The report that I saw on TV said that they used up their life savings by traveling to Italy about 25 times in the last 4 years and on lawyers and court fees. They may have been rich, but I got the idea that they aren’t any more. But like you said, that doesn’t have any bearing on the fact that that poor girl was railroaded.

I wouldn't call the parents rich when the grandmother had to spend her life savings of $250,000 to help.

I hope Amanda gets filthy rich, for several reasons.
