Paint Creek, Tex. In the early years of his political career, Rick Perry began hosting fellow lawmakers, friends and supporters at his familys secluded West Texas hunting camp, a place known by the name painted in block letters across a large, flat rock standing upright at its gated entrance.
Niggerhead, it read.
The name of this particular parcel did not change for years after it became associated with Rick Perry, first as a private citizen, then as a state official and finally as Texas governor.

Youd rather vote for Romney than Cain? Thats the conclusion they want you to come to. Then when you have Romney, they will make you very sorry
********************************
I have said I would vote republican no matter how sick it makes me, even Romney— now, nope.
I would rather not vote for EITHER but I will rot in hell before I vote Cain.
I don’t care if people tell me that’s a vote for Obama, I’ve had enough of this Dr.Pepper campaign—he’s a racist, she’s a racist.
SICK AND TIRED OF THE RACE CARP! I will not vote for a republican who does it.
Anything less than an aggressive defense of Perry by Cain will be seen as a wink and a nod to the race-baiters.
There’s a rock formation near the Kentucky/Virginia line called Nigger Head. When the PC names are handed down, I suppose it will become Person of Color Head.
I’ve seen this “Niggerhead” sign many times on the Hendrick Ranch, where it is located. This was an old hunting camp way before Perry leased the area. This sign is basically in the middle of nowhere. Obviously some enemy put out this info.
Perry had NOTHING to do with the name.
I did find it humorous that it was painted white and now says Perry camp on the sign.
We will see what we shall see. After THAT debate, I took a real shine to Cain too. After Cain’s refusal to support Perry if he was nominated, on such dubious reasoning, turned me off to him. We will never have to worry if Cain gets the nomination. Cain knows it as well and is doing his “business politics” game of sucking up to Romney.
If people will listen to the interview, I don’t believe he was attacking Perry. He was asked HIS OWN OPINION and he simply stated it was racially insensitive.
He is answering a question as a child who grew up in the 50s and 60s. I’m not thinking people are making that connection. What was he supposed to do, LIE???
Rather, Perry supporters are trying to turn this into a fight that it is not, playing right into the hands of the media. This is exactly what they wanted.
GOOD Riddance!
I emailed ole Mike about this crap.
Cain should know better than to take ole mikey’s bait.
That is rich. You were never a Cain supporter. You have made it your mission to post misleading statements as well as down right lies on every Cain thread, despite being shown facts over and over.
You are to Cain what Pissant was to Palin
Due to this same sensitivity, here in British Columbia we now have a Nig Creek, a China Bar, and Sob Lake; and of course there are no more Squaw this and that.
Yes. Sob Lake was originally Sonofa....Lake.
You are so right Rita.
the Zero zombies are hard at work. LIE CHEAP STEAL, whatever it takes to try to wound Perry.
WAPO lying for the O-Zombies. Figures.
Do you know that the Houston Chronicle actually has a whole section called Perry Presidential. It is nothing but hit pieces on Perry.
I’m going to ask the FEC if this is legal. We’ll see. No other candidates JUST PERRY
Clarification - Sob Lake was formerly S.O.B. Lake.
I do not get the 'outrage' over Mr. Cain answering a direct question. I have not seen one verifiable suggestion that Mr. Cain is the source leaking a story of the name on the rock. It seems more likely the source is from somebody deep in Texas that does NOT like Perry and what a 'perfect' way for the media to make news. AND I have yet to read the Perry family had anything to do with naming the 'rock', only they RENTED the property. The only 'outrage' I see is the media's attempt once again to make NEWS.
Yes, because everybody knows that you should allow yourself to get drawn into attacking your competition based on a rumor. It's so presidential.
What RUMOR? The Perry camp does NOT deny there was a rock named ............ by the PROPERTY owners. But the Perry family did NOT own the 'rock' or its sign. Personally, I find it insulting the media muckrakers thought it was their obligation to ask Cain the question in the first place. I really do not see how else Cain could have answered what he was asked. AND it does seem that somebody did indeed paint over the name.
Mechanically driven winches of this sort, (Stroudsburg, possibly originally designed for oil field use?) were fairly common on double rig shrimp boats built back in the 60's & 70's. Note also the lower shafts (painted white, in this instance). At the end of those are brake pedals, with a counterweight being visible in the lower foreground. It takes a bit of coordination to operate winches of this sort.
Everybody called the fixtures (to the right in this photo) on the end of the main, central shafts both "niggerhead" or "cathead".
Like many others, I wondered as to the etymology of both terms, noticing they were used interchangeably.
"Cathead" seems to have generally won out over "niggerhead", at least on the West Coast.
His initial reaction should always be...”Let's see what the facts are” when it come to this race baiting nonsense.
I like Cain, but he needs to better perceive when he is being set up.
As Herman Cain said this morning, that is/was insensitive and it sounds like Perry took care of it (its been painted over.) Im trying to figure out how it got the name to begin with.... More importantly, when is the black community going to be outraged with rappers who use that word with impunity? Im waiting.....snooze.

It’s a type of rock. Look it up.
Re; Cain
why so surprised anyway?
I knew it would out eventually.
.
In what I read, they claim to have interviewed varying numbers who claim they saw the rock with the term painted on it but not when.
This is nothing more than an attempt to hit Perry with the race card over a word on a rock on leased property as it was in the 1980s.
Most aren't even from the county of this camp, they declined to be identified, some are said to be Democrats, others Republicans, some supposedly support Perry and others said opposed.
We have the usual, "I knew this would haunt him" comments. In those pages, there's some confirmation the rock was modified as Perry contends and yet they kept writing.
In the game of telephone that passes for news reporting, this property will become Perry's private land, an epithet scrawled by his own hand, from his own lips and he'll be denounced as a closet Klan member obsessed with state's rights because he wants slavery to return.
If Herman Cain doesn't realize when he's being played by the press, he has no business running for the White House. Or if he does know, and feeds the race baiting, he's clearly in Romney's camp.
