Yeah, the wild west has been a bit overblown. I Would feel safer in Chicago in 1860 than today.
As long as one stayed out of saloons, you would much safer in any “Wild West” town including Tombstone, Bodie or Deadwood in the 19th Century than any big city in America at the present time.
