No matter whose side you are on this ad is pretty stinging for Perry. Starts by asking who else agrees with Perry's in state tuition policy and shows pictures of Obama Pelosi and Reid line up with each other and then cuts to clip of Vincente Fox in broken english praising Perry for helping Mexican migrates. You can watch for yourself on link.
Why dont these dudes concentrate on the goofball in the white house? Fast and Furious. There are so many things that are not mentioned. It’s really dumb.
When fully examined, the Texas in-state tuition issue is not that big a deal. It’s not a subsidy. It had seemingly broad support in Texas.
I’m don’t support the idea, but I don’t think it’s a huge scandal.
I’m MUCH more concerned about Romneycare.
It is a subsidy. All instate tuition for public colleges in Texas and every other state are subsidized.
That is the purpose of charging out of state students much more for tuition; to recapture the subsidy, since they have not contributed to the states finances as instate residents have.
You’re so wrong. Perry is finished because he is being perceived as a clone of George Bush with all his pro-llegal rhetoric.
From what I have read, if you come over the border from Oklahoma and establish residency for a year, yes, you get in-state tuition. Whereas the illegal must establish 3 years of residency. So, comparing illegal vs. other state doesn't hold up. The argument that they should get in state tuition because they have lived in Texas and paid taxes and will become productive, educated people by going to college doesn't hold up either. The question, that someone already asked, of where are they supposed to work, since they are here illegally shoots down the reason behind subsidizing their education.
I think you've hit a nail on its head. I am a lifelong Texan, GWB and Rick Perry fan. And after his stammering performance in the last debate, I thought Perry lost his "Conservative Texas Gov, but more consistently conservative than and presents his case better than GWB" position.
I bet there are a lot of folks who are looking at Perry now and saying, "Not again."
Perry will just have to buck up and take it.
Of course, I suspect he has some ads of his own on the drawing board.
It’s no trick to win when you’re running unopposed. The GOP is not going to nominate a Massachusetts liberal who couldn’t win reelection in his home state, a backbench Congresswoman, a failed former Senator, the erratic, washed up, loudmouthed former Speaker of the House, or a lunatic libertarian Congressman. It certainly isn’t going to nominate a talk show host. As long as that’s the menu, the twice-reelected Governor of Texas will win, easily.
It’s still possible the menu will change, but increasingly unlikely. You can rest easy and watch the inevitable unfold.
The problem is, Perry is RIGHT on the issue. The Conventional Conservative wisdom is wrong.
When I come to a question of how to deal with an issue, I don’t stick my finger in the air, I find someone dealing with the issue, and see what they have to say.
As Perry (alas only in one instance) adroitly points out, this was a consensus decision in Texas, only 4 votes against.
Nice point.
Concur.
If you’re hearing Perry being Pro Illegal, you need to get on the meds.
