A heckler who got into a heated exchange with Bristol Palin at a Southern California bar and restaurant last week has apologized for the incident.
Palin had just finished riding a mechanical bull at the Saddle Ranch & Chop House when Stephen Hanks shouted, "Do you ride Levi like that? Your mother's a whore."

"Having had an opportunity to view the camera footage of the incident this past Thursday ... , I have come to the conclusion that no matter what my feelings are towards Sarah Palin, I should not have expressed them towards her daughter, Bristol Palin," Hanks said in a statement released by his attorney Tuesday.
"I am very passionate about politics, and believe in equality for all Americans," Hanks continued. "I expressed my feelings in an improper manner in the heat of the moment, and allowed my emotions to get the better of me."

A statement from Hanks' attorney, Michael Gulden, denied any connection to the TV show.
"Mr. Hanks would like to clarify that, to his knowledge, this incident was not 'set up' for Bristol Palin's forthcoming reality show, as has been suggested in various media reports," Gulden said." In fact Mr. Hanks was not even aware that cameras were filming the exchange."

Doesn’t sound like an apology.
He appears to be hetro-phobic to me.
Yeah, I’m not seeing why he’d need a lawyer, and why so many FReepers in this thread think he should be sued.
It’s his right to be a complete jerk, isn’t it, so long as he doesn’t threaten or cause physical harm, right? Before long, will posters on FR need lawyers for things they post about politicians?
I thought CNN was nothing BUT entertainment.
Or, “Don’t let your mouth write a check your ass can’t cash”
Has Sarah actually brought suit against McGinnis? I had not read anything except the threat of same.
I will be perfectly frank about this exchange between Bristol and what’s his name ... I am over the top suspicious of anything coming out of folk’s mouths when their living is based on appearances on reality tv programs.
I find it very plausible that the whole White House crashers dustup over infidelity is ratings based. It is more than within the realm of the possible that Bristol’s exchange with the guy was staged for the sake of ratings.
Steven Hanks demands equality for Butt Lickers and Fudge Packers of all races!
“His” lawyers told him to say that about the cameras. By making his statements on camera, I think he could be sued. I am not a lawyer, however, and never played one on TV.
He’s a weak kneed, faggity ass bully. If it were Mr. Palin in that bar, this guy wouldn’t have said a word.
C’mon, folks. I understand people are passionate about defending Bristol, but that’s no reason to start insulting crap, douche bags, and toolboxes
Hanks has come down with a dose of Normal-phobia...
What a queer thing to say...
His pals on the left will never forgive him for apologizing.
Palin had just finished riding a mechanical bull at the Saddle Ranch & Chop HouseI don't think anyone could ever ride a mechanical bull as well as Debra Winger did in Urban Cowboy.
You have your ID wrong.
This guy is not
Hanks, Steven K., Ph.D. Professor of Cell and Developmental Biology, Emeritus
He would have to be 65+ to be “Emeritus”
And Vanderbilt U is in Tennessee.
The other thing, maybe.
Hank needs to learn that if you become an @ss when drunk, you should stay sober.

No, he just doesn't like girls...
He should enjoy some time in jail, locked up with a bunch of big, sweaty men, who are looking for a b#*@h like him for a ‘girlfriend’.
