I am not against border security. Troops on the border. Predator Drones, virtual fence, cameras and double the funds given for the Border Patrol. Do it all! The fence except in strategic areas is a waste of resources, a false security and too expensive not to mention we have natural boundaries i.e. the Rio Grande, Big Bend National Park where we cede an American River to Mexico and run a fence through the mountains of Big Bend cutting off wildlife crossing and creating a general eyesore.
It's like after 9-11 they cut off fishing at the dam on the lake side near my house, built a big fence to keep "terrorists" out, now not only do we have an eyesore but a big monument to failure to man up and do the right thing. Not to mention that was where all the fish were.

I know that is just a link to a story but I will try to put together something for all Freepers. Something I can go to with some links to actual government stats.
I am gonna go throw the ball with the kids now. I will return.

I sure hope my new reading glasses get done soon.
I read it as “Did You Ever See the Video of Rick Perry Dancing With Rabies?”.
God, I’m getting old and blind.

That would be great, Normy, because I just can’t see it. He looks weak on illegal immigration.

I don’t mind debate about the exact means, but it seems that a society that can figure out how to go to the moon, ought to be able to figure out how to police the border closely enough that anyone trying to get in from outside who isn’t supposed to will get stopped and questioned. There’s no reason Mexico should be indulged in presuming on the USA winking at its own immigration policy. Virtual fence, real fence, a mix of the two, whatever, but it belongs at the Mexican border. And there is no reason Texas should be taxed any more than Illinois is for keeping the invaders out.

It is good to see there are a few people here as yourself that are rational. Some of these threads look more like a scene out of Porky’s Revenge—raucous and juvenile. If these are conservative adults, it is a very sad state of affairs.

So you believe it is Texas’s job to guard the USA border for the rest of the 49 states?
OK, all the other states pony up their 1/50 of the cost, and Texas will take it on.

Texas A&M was an all male school back when Perry and Mr Ditter were there and they were called Yell Leaders not Cheerleaders.

You seemed to be saying that Perry, a governor of a State, was supposed to take on the federal role of securing the USA border.
Personally, as a Texas taxpayer, I call BS. Not our job.

Even Thomas Sowell came out today with a piece about how attacking Perry about border security is not smart.
He has an excellent plan using technology, ground forces, air support, etc. He’s tried to get help from the feds to finance it, but they (Obama) ignore him.
Most of the people criticizing Perry about the border live inland somewhere or up east.
Please back off your knee jerk criticism of Perry and the border and actually look up what he’s done and want to do.

Which side do we build this thing? I'm not trying to be a smart ass, I am just trying to wade through the knee jerk reactions of some and show what Bachman,Santorum and recently Palin are advocating and how they are pandering.

I think there are a few agitators who are trying to spark an emotional debate rather than a logical one. I think may of the Freepers are just passionate but will listen to reason and facts. It's just hard wading through.
Romney tried this with his “bi-national healthcare” remark in the debate, knowing Perry wouldn't have time to explain it for what it was, and hoping to brand Perry.

You seemed to be saying that Perry, a governor of a State, was supposed to take on the federal role of securing the USA border. And it's not like Perry hasn't repeatedly hammered on the Feds over the past few years to do their part in securing the border. Most of his requests have been largely ignored by the scum in Washington.
But I don't bother trying to discuss these things with the New York Times/Washington Post/CNN/MSNBC contingent on here. They've made up their minds what they want to "know" and I don't see them deciding to be objective anytime soon.
