"During the past two years, the state of Texas has become increasingly threatened by the spread of Mexican cartel organized crime," the report concluded.
The report states six of the seven Mexican drug cartels have "command and control" operations in Texas cities.
"Texas has become critical terrain and operational ground zero in the cartel's efforts to expand into the United States," the report stated.
McCaffrey said the cartels are heavily recruiting Texas gang members to help insure the transportation of drugs into the United States and cash from the sale of drugs back into Mexico. McCaffrey said the Texas Department of Public Safety estimates at least 18,000 Texas gang members are already working for the cartels, and the number of prison gangs working with the cartels increased from four to twelve in the last year.
"That is an enemy division inside Texas that is armed and criminal in nature and fueled by drug money," McCaffrey said.

We HAVE to have Perry as President to SAVE this Nation. PERIOD. I have to go for a while but will be back.
Lets see, after ten years of Perry being in charge of Texas, the situation has become worse by several magnitudes.
Oh, that's right, it's the Feds fault.
Here's a photo of Perry doing his best to save Texas and the nation.
Get off it. The LAST TWO YEARS HAVE BEEN OBAMAS
TOTAL ABANDONMENT OF THE BORDERS OF THE UNITED STATES.
Face it your boy Obama has invited the Cartels in, even giving them arms. HAPPY
I'll tell you, today at work I was thinking that sooner of later the violence will be in the border states. And it could happen before 2012. As you know, because of the goings on in Mexico, Phoenix, Arizona has become the kidnapping capital of the world.
Don't be surprised if we begin to suffer a similar crisis such as American women being found decapitated at their computers because of something (against the cartel) they wrote in the social media. Don't be surprised if decapitated bodies of American men, women and children are hanging off the sides of bridges on our way to work or found in dumpsters at the local Walmart. It's coming. It's inevitable.
And who is to blame?
"The problem is, if we secure the border, then you all won't have any reason to support comprehensive immigration reform" President Barack Hussein Obama (June 2011)
Anyone who believes that Rick “You Have No Heart” Perry is the answer to out border security issues obviously doesn’t even understand the question.
Nice try. Too bad you whiffed.
“An ominous point also made in the report states, “Today, Texas is the front line in this escalating war, the potential consequences of success or failure will affect our entire nation.”
Name ONE candidate that will do what HAS to be done. Only Perry knows what is going on.
Fort Hood is in Texas and Obama couldn’t send a few of them to help with the Border. )(*^^*&%&*()
BINGO!
The War is here. I wanted to slap Santorium and his wanting troops in Iraq. After reading this I want to kick him between the legs.
Bfl
That's like having your roof about to collapse and being happy that it's snowing out.
Perry says if you don’t want to give in state tuition to illegal aliens then you have no heart. If you are heartless in not wanting illegal aliens to get in state tuition then Perry must think those that deport and prosecute illegals are pure evil.
Save the Perry has done nothing BS:
Texas Joins the War
Because Texas is the frontline in this conflict and because its citizens and institutions are most affected, the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) has developed a comprehensive military-like operational campaign against narco-terrorists. This effort is still growing and
changing in response to an adaptive and ruthless enemy that still harbors an intense desire to take its campaign into the United States.
Five years of effort to curtail narco-terrorist
intrusion has given the Texas DPS and its state and local partners enormous and hard-won experience in the art and science of fighting the southwest border war.
Beginning in 2006, Texas began a series of high-intensity, sequential, short-duration
operations that resulted in crime reductions ranging from 25 percent to as high as 75
percent as smuggling operations decreased. Later, the state expanded and lengthened
these operations by increasing the patrol presence along the Texas-Mexico border.
Governor Perry was able to achieve this expansion of effort by leveraging various
discretionary grants to increase local and state patrol capacity along the border through
overtime payments and the purchase of communications and surveillance equipment as
well as new vehicles and weapons. The governor also committed Texas military forces to
support these operations.
To gain support from the citizenry, in 2007 the Texas Legislature created the Border Security
Council (BSC) charged with advising the governor regarding the allocation of discretionary
state homeland security funds. The BSC held a series of public hearings and received
testimony from business owners, law enforcement officers, local elected officials and
private citizens and then produced a comprehensive report and recommendations on
border security issues for the governor and Texas Legislature
There used to a poster here called bayourod, he loved open borders and cheap labor. Turns out he’s a governor running for president.
Any politician that thinks giving a bunch of goodies to illegal aliens is a good idea does not have what it takes to battle the Cartels.
You Perry supporters are hoot.
I started seeing, "If you don't support Perry, why you're a commie, a troll, or a, a Obama supporter"
You people cough up asinine juvenile comments like uncontrolled burps. It just comes out with little thought.
They’re doing this in NY too, Pataki signed off on tuition benefits. This was when the Bush/Rove machine was trying to convince everyone in the GOP its future lie in the votes of illegal aliens. But in reality they just want the cheap labor to suppress wages and keep the labor pool saturated. Getting votes through “compassionate conservatism” at our expense is an extra benefit that Republicans will never see.
Look, you have been on this forum for many years and I highly respect your posts. In this case, however, you are off the reservation. I do not know what the borderlands are like where you are in California, but I do know what they are like in Texas. I have traveled extensively along the border, from Boca Chica beach to El Paso City. It does not feel safe, and I always travel armed. The US government has made a decision to set up BP control more than 100 miles inland, not, repeat not, along the border. The border is enforced only by Texas State and County law enforcement, and by BP stations at the official crossings. The ATF and DEA are busy gunrunning in the southerly direction, that is what the Federal government under Omarxist is doing. With a border stretching more than a thousand miles along the river, and an unenforced borderland open to Mexicans without hardly any federal challenge for 100 miles inland, and 1000+ miles long, what do you expect a governor like Rick Perry to do? Shoot all the illegals and stack them up to form a wall?
OH pahleeze.
Obviously you didn’t read the report.
