Heck, the Allies had more and better tanks and planes at the start of the Battle of France. They also had 5M men vs. 3M Germans.
It is amazing how seldom these little facts are mentioned. The common narrative is that the Allies were destroyed by overwhelmingly greater German force.
And the French had thousands of tanks and millions of men on the German border, but did not have the intelligence to strike Germany with its back turned nor the heart to march in against a grave injustice. All they could worry about was “when will the Hun attack us?” Never, “Let us attack the Hun now, with all we've got!!”
Hitler's generals where ready to oust him had the French came over the Rhine. The most amazing thing to them in the whole war was why they never did.
