Thank you for the summary, did not know he helped Murkowski, that is stunning to me. WHat was the motivation of him doing THAT, was he paid well?

Rick was doing what the folks in Washington (GOP leadership) wanted him to do.

He was protecting an insider politician (Murkowski) from an outsider.

It was really not much different from the work he did in the spring of 2004 protecting Arlen Specter from Pat Toomey in the PA Senate Primary.

Santorum is also very close to the National Right To Life Committee, which is an arm of the GOP insider political machine and his job was to make sure the local affiliate bowed to the political machine and did not endorse the Pro-Life challenger to Pro-Abortion Murkowski.

National Right To Life plays the political game inspite of its name willing to throw Pro-Life candidates not considered “electable” over the side in primary situations.
