Because once you set up a national sales tax IN ADDITION to a national income tax, you’re just asking for a nightmare. Herman Cain used to promote the FairTax (He did in the first debate), but announced his 9-9-9 plan as uniting the Flat Taxes and FairTaxers. It’s not going to united them at all, because they don’t want BOTH. He also touted that “10% is good enough for God” and then announced a (roughly) 18% tax on all goods, since you get taxed for making money and then for spending it (at the federal in addition to state level).

I have no problem with Cain, but that plan is terrible (I can support someone without supporting ever idea they get). Government needs to be shrunk down to miniscule levels, not try to find funding for the behemoth, and the income tax repealed. That is the biggest scam EVER foisted upon the American People, because they never see what’s being robbed from them. A national sales tax would show them each and every time they purchased something, that their dollars were being taken from them.

Now why would you try to promote something that isn’t true? Cain has said many times and did again today on FNC that he would first SCRAP THE CURRENT SYSTEM. Did I say that loud enough for you to notice this time?

I like the flat income tax because then you don’t end up with all the problems with a prebate. Don’t take the money in the first place and you won’t have to give it right back. Listen to Forbes and Armey. They had to work out all kinds of problems.

One thing is for sure: we have to get rid of the system that we have now. If we just take potshots then we’re just going to get a few tweaks to the existing plan. The real problem is with the corporate tax. It has so many loopholes because of all the cronyism and contradictory public aims and it is very hard for a small businessman to deal with.

If you read about the 9-9-9 on his website, the plan is to transition to Fair Tax. The 9-9-9 is merely Phase 1.

When introduced in 1913, the highest Income Tax rate was 13%.

Thirty one years later, by 1994, that top rate had ballooned to 94%.

These "30 second sound bite" solutions sound great until the reality of the political world hits you in the face: Once you introduce a tax, you can NEVER get rid of it.
