Romney is Running Rings Around Perry
Commentary ^ | Sept. 23, 2011

I hope Gov. Rick Perry enjoyed his six week run as the front runner of the GOP field, because it's now over. Perry has had three debates. His first was mediocre. His second debate performance was weaker than his first, and last nights debate was worse than either of the first two. He comes across as unprepared, sometimes unsteady, and at times his answers border on being incoherent. And his stand on illegal immigration will hurt him with the GOP base. A lot of conservatives rallied to Perry based on what they assumed he was, having seen him hardly at all.

Slick, polished—whatever. You got the point. If not—I can’t stand to look at the guy. :)

Perry was, and is, Rove’ stalking horse for Romney.

Perry, Gore, Rove, Romney == DNC/RINOs

I don’t find anything the media do to be odd. They have their agenda(as if no one knew that)and they use their position to flog their opponents. Perry not aware of that and prepared? Why not?
Romney sucks. The GOP establishment is firmly behind him. I’d look to the RINOs for fault.

We can’t “get rid” of romney until there is a primary election or two. The establishment is going to continue to support him until it becomes obvious that he won’t win the nomination.
We aren’t “destroying” anyone. Perry’s “bumbling” as you put it is his fault. No one elses. Bachmann’s problems are also self imposed.

Same here...I get as turned off seeing Romney as I do Obama, Clinton, McCain...to name a few. I truly do believe that if Romney is the nominee, Obama will win a second term.

Who cares. Romney or Perry, they’re both RINOs.

Romney will not repeal Obamacare....and THAT should be our #1 priority!!!

A president can't repeal Obamacare. The Congress will have to pass legislation for there to be a full repeal of Obamacare, then the president would have to sign it.

So the question for Republican candidates is: would they sign a bill to repeal Obamacare?

The real fight to repeal Obamacare is in electing more Republicans to Congress and especially the Senate. Things can probably be done by a president or Congress to cripple or slow down Obamacare, but the only way for a full repeal is a bill from Congress that is signed by the president.

And, as a symbolic gesture, the new House did pass a bill to repeal Obamacare earlier this year. Of course, it went nowhere in the Senate.

The House Votes to Repeal ObamaCare

Obamacare has to be repealed the same way it was passed.

Romney is the media's choice. He's this year's John McCain.

And Rove as well, because Rove hates Perry with a passion. He's once again leading republicans around by the nose and they are joyfully following just as they did when they nominated McCain.

Perry’s “bumbling” is his fault....alone. No one else's. We did not put words into his mouth.

It is true that the nation has elected incoherent Texans to the White House before but at the Orlando venue, Perry come up with some really dumb non-sequiturs. This one takes the cake: Perry’s debate answer WRT what he’d do if the White House phone rang at 3 AM......informing him that the Taliban had gotten control of Pakistan’s nuclear weapons.

“Well, obviously, before you ever get to that point, you have to build a relationship in that region. And that’s one of the things that this administration has not done. Just yesterday we found out through Admiral Mullen that Haqqani has been involved with — and that’s the terrorist group directly associated with the Pakistani country — so to have a relationship with India, to make sure that India knows that they are an ally of the United States.” Perry went on to tell a story about how the Obama administration wouldn’t sell upgraded F-16 fighters to India. Which n-e-v-e-r happened.

====================================

Perry's candidacy-ending response was when he thumbed his nose at his country and its citizenry by saying those who disagreed with him on in-state tuition are "heartless." The inference was that only Perry was truly worthy (b/c only he had sucked up to Mexico).

========================================

Perry was anticipating the triumphal moment when he would be able to nail Romney for being a flip-flopper---and had prepared for it. This was Perry's response: “I think Americans just don’t know sometimes which Mitt Romney they’re dealing with. Is it the Mitt Romney that was on the side of — against the Second Amendment before he was for the Second Amendment? Was it — was before — he was before the social programs from the standpoint of — he was for standing up for Roe versus Wade before he was against first — Roe versus Wade? Him — he was for Race to the Top. He’s for Obamacare and now he’s against it. I mean, we’ll wait until tomorrow and — and — and see which Mitt Romney we’re really talking to tonight.”

==========================================

Perry has a complete lack of presidential gravitas — he has an odd way of responding, then cocking his head in an almost mechanical way, posing with a self-satisfied grin (as if he had just paged through his vast holdings).

I’m just not buying the same tired old GOP Kool Aide from Perry or Romney.

Its time to try something different.

Agreed——although it’s amazing that a dolt like Perry could falter so badly that he makes Romney look electable.

Amazing.

A president can't repeal Obamacare. The Congress will have to pass legislation for there to be a full repeal of Obamacare, then the president would have to sign it.

I do not think we will have a fillibuster-proof majority in the Senate. Therefore, you NEED a POTUS who will strongly advocate for repeal and twist a few blue-dog arms into supporting the repeal.

Romney is only talking about waivers granted by the executive branch....not enough to stop the goliath.

Perry, Bachmann, Cain, Gingrich and Santorum would all advocate a repeal and fight for it in Congress.

Romney and Huntsman would not.

So, what are we doing? Allowing Romney and Huntsman to slide through while we play circular firing squad!!!!!

Perry is imperfect and his own worst enemy, but Romney is the real threat!

For now I’m sticking with Bachmann and Cain and couldn’t care less about the so called conventional “wisdom” that keeps giving us crap.

If the election were held today, Romney would defeat President Obama, probably in something close to a landslide.

“It’s much harder to successfully run for president than most people imagine – and it helps a lot to have run before.”

The writer is wrong. If you’re black, liberal, and speak in banal abstractions, you can get elected the first time out of the gate. The media will make it happen.
