As I've often said, dueling should be made legal again. Much of this inexcusable public behavior would stop immediately.
I always wondered what the role of seconds were. Are they just there to make arrangements- where to meet and what time. And to make sure the weapons work and everyone plays by the rules. Or, if one of the duelers doesn't show up, does the second have to take his place? And how many seconds does a dueler need? And were some seconds feared? I mean, would a guy say to his buddy, "Hey, Stanislaus, don't mess with that guy. He's the Count of Monte Cristo's second."
