I recall the media making a big deal about Cindy McCain’s expensive jewelry and First Lady Laura Bush wearing designer Oscar de la Renta custom gowns while America’s working families did not have much. The newspapers reported that it was very insensitive of these ladies to do. Obama’s wife, who brings up the working class often, seems to act more like a Hollywood star than understanding the country is in bad financial shape.
Agree, yet the media has given MO a pass on this disgraceful behavior. The expensive vacations, the $2,000 dresses, the $500 sneakers .... etc. I don’t have a problem with FLOTUS looking nice, but I do have a problem with flaunting when Americans are hurting with no relief in sight. This is while they tell us we need to have “skin in this game.”
Does anyone remember the “Republican Cloth Coat” touted by Richard Nixon during the “Checkers” speech?
I beleive Laura’s gown was returned. It wa for one night, and one night only. What do you think that gown would fetch at a charity auction?
If I remember correctly, didn’t Tom Brokaw comment during one of the GOP conventions (GHWB ?) about the rich “dripping in jewels” there?
