I know he’s been executed. I just hope some future forensic evidence or methodology doesn’t show it was, in fact, ole “Red” who did it. Just more ammo for the anti-death penalty forces.

I sure hope this brings whatever measure of peace can be found for the McPhail family.

So far, no known innocent person has been executed. Given the appeal process and years and years it takes, I find it hard to believe that the guy isn't guilty. 34 witnesses including three air force personnel. A jury that had about 50% blacks. And I am sure that if we had the interest and time to go thru all the court transcripts and evidence, there would be no such doubt.

I served as a juror at a murder trial. There were no witnesses except the words of the dying victim and the murder weapon was never recovered, but the circumstantial evidence was overwhelming. We found the defendant guilty. After that experience, I have greater faith in our judicial system. All of us took it very seriously and did our best to ensure that we believed the person was guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
