Herman Cain is among the featured speakers at the CPAC-Florida event this week, but a Donald Trump slot was what had originally been in the offing, a source familiar with the planning said.
Trump, speech-making for cash in Australia, couldn't make the event, and highly recommended Cain for a similar slot, and heaped praise on the low-polling former Godfather's Pizza CEO as a potential Cabinet official for a Republican president (should that happen) and on American Conservative Union president Al Cardenas. Trump first started getting attention this year - and defining the few very early months of the presidential run - after a barn-burner at the CPAC annual convention in Washington D.C.
Trump, after bursting onto the political scene on a wave of birtherism and gold-plated populism - which brought with it the level of scrutiny that politicians who poll well get - had largely disappeared for most of the summer. But after Rick Perry came to meet with him recently, and with Mitt Romney poised to do the same next Monday, Trump has made himself an unavoidable part of the conversation.
Good for Trump.
Cain seems a clean, thoughtful candidate. We could do a lot worse.
Good for Trump and very good for Cain. The media hasn’t given him anywhere near the coverage they do Mitt and Romney. I find Herman Cain refreshingly honest, forthright and full of common sense. I want him in the discussion, absolutely.
Not to mention that Cain has proven he can take bankrupt institutions and turn them around; Trump has proven he can take institutions and turn them around and bankrupt them.
The people who are being dismissive of Herman Cain, or counting him out because they are looking at the current polls, should keep in mind that at this time four years ago, most people were wondering whether it would be Fred Thompson or Rudy that would take on Hillary.
Now that Trump has gotten people to start thinking that maybe we need someone who understands the economy and job creation, a lot of people will vote for Herman Cain who wouldn’t have before.
Herman has the right positions on everything important, without some of the HUGE baggage that most of the politicians have.
And being so open about his WHOLE life will endear him to a lot of people who may still be stinging from getting the wool pulled over their eyes by the teleprompter reader.
His positive intensity score has been the highest every week, until the week Rick Perry announced, and Perry got a little bump - then Herman was back on top the next.
I expect that he will be back on top of that one soon, as more people find out about about Perrys Hispanic pandering.
Closer look at Perry = less support.
Closer look at Herman = more support.
Right now Perry is the shiny new penny, but people are going to start taking a closer look at him.
As people start looking at the other way of looking at the two man race, and the Positive Intensivity scores on Gallup, Herman is the only one who really has it all.
I’d like to hear what Trump thinks of Herman’s 9 9 9 plan.
Here is a really good analysis of it:

A couple highlights from the article:
“It is, in short “Economic Liberty”
The diametric opposite of what has been in practice since the Obama administration took office.”
“The 999 plan puts all Americans on equal footing and eradicates the root of class warfare.. When Legislative issues arise that will call for more spending and imply the need for higher taxes, it would be a great change of pace to see every productive American evaluate the issue from the standpoint of a taxpayer/stakeholder. (Even illegals would object to higher taxes!)”
The article has lots of details for the numbers people, and explanations for the rest.
