A father and his teenage daughter were in critical condition after receiving severe burns during an alleged attempt to steal electricity from high-voltage power lines in Inglewood, a police official said Saturday.

L.A. County Fire officials and police responding to an explosion at a power transformer late Friday found the 52-year-old man and his 17-year-old daughter with extensive electric burns, Inglewood Police Lt. Neal Cochran said.

The man had used tools to tap into a live wire, resulting in a chain reaction and causing the transformer to explode, Cochran said. The father and daughter, whose names were not released, were taken to a nearby hospital pending an eventual transfer to a burn unit, he said.

Power lines connected to the transformer, near Hawthorne Boulevard and 101st Street, were temporarily shut off because of the explosion, according to Cochran. The incident occurred around 11:40 p.m. Friday.

If it has CA after the name you can bet on it. Well maybe somewhere in No Cal, then again maybe not.

It is very obvious (from the ages) that the father was either going to retire or abandon his family and was pasing on his skills to his eldest (who isn’t already in jail or such)living heir so he could at least continue to try and provide for them.

It is a touching story and I would imagine if one had a long enough extension cord they could have powered the whole building, thereby really bringing his entreprenuer skills full cycle.

MORE POWER TO THEM.

It occurs to me that if the daughter was his only child, and if the accident had actually been fatal to both...

This guy would have been a Darwin Award nominee!

Yeah, I know, cold and heartless. "Whatever" discount.

No, just natures way of cleaning up the human gene pool.

Thanks for your video.

If someone would have told me that today I would be sitting around looking at electrical arch videos I would have said that they are nuts. Unfortunately I think that’s how I am going to spend me day.

That’s an impressive page. I was starting up a new boiler system in a new hospital many years ago. An electrician let his fishtape hit a live 480V 3 Phase line. “POOF” a good chunk of the fishtape evaporated and lit up the whole building. Luckily he was not killed.

Later I worked at a research institute that shot rockets into thunderstorms to cause lightning to discharge at specific test locations. The rockets trailed out wire behind them like a TOW missile. That was always impressive.

Stupidity comes in all races.

You'll have to admit that you don't commonly hear of "current theft" taking place in the USA, but it is ubiquitous in Mexico. There is a strong correlation. I'd call it cultural rather than racial. Hispanic physical traits mean nothing, but hispanic culture strongly predisposes.

Kenyans aren't any brighter.

KENYA: The death toll has risen to at least ninety-six in a gas pipeline explosion (CNN) this week in a densely populated slum in Nairobi. Authorities suspect the pipeline was punctured in an effort to steal fuel.

This explosion happened when one of the Obama people threw his lit cigarette away while collecting some of the gas in a bucket.

I remember a huge explosion like this a couple of years back when the Kenyans were trying to steal gas from a pipeline using a torch.

????

Outside of the Bay Area and Los Angeles California is beautiful place with decent, normal people. As for Northern California it is the most conservative part of the state. Aside from its one large city -- Sacramento -- Nor Cal is largely rural and a wonderful place to live.
