Abortion? Is that the only issue he cares about? The issue he feels is the make-or-break issue of today for this country?

Then he loses all respect from this Independent. There are many, and worse, problems to worry about in These United States. The Republicans in the House decided, rightly or wrongly, that Boehner was going to be the standard-bearer for their caucus. Look back in history, and you will see that politics is the art of finding middle ground.

One of the problems we have today as a people is that there are too many people making bright-line judgments with absolutely no give at all. On both sides of the aisle. The Democrats want to solve things by throwing money at the problems. The Republicans say "no" (I don't mean that in a pejorative way; I believe that the government that governs least governs best) to most of these "solutions."

Our economy would be in much better shape if the Democrats could curb their anti-business and anti-wealth mantra long enough to get people working again. The environmental issues would be less pressing if the Republicans could work to agree to high-return measures.

Both sides are acting like children who "are holding my breath until my face turns blue until I get what I want." That's why I'm an Independent, by the way -- I've lost respect for both political parties for just this reason. I understand that one should hold onto principals; I believe, though, that it's better to lead by example instead of by force.

Don't like abortion? Fine, don't practice it. Your aversion to the procedure doesn't need to extend to holding a gun to the head of another woman. Don't like pollution? Fine, stop doing things that pollute. Your aversion to the practice doesn't need to extend to holding a gun to the head of another human being.

And so on. For people here who are Christians, remember that Jesus taught by example and by parable, not by force. When you impose your will on someone else, you are using force, violence, the acts of war, to effect the change. Make sure that the ends justify the carnage you inflict.

Really????

Don't like murder? Fine, don't practice it, but don't let your aversion to the practice cause you to deny the right of someone else to get rid of someone they find inconvenient.

Don't like theft? Fine, don't practice it, but don't let your aversion to the practice cause you to hold the gun to someone's head who just needs to do a little stealin' to feed their family

Don't like extortion, don't like rape, don't like slavery, don't like terrorism, fine, don't practice it, but don't deny others the right to "do what they want with their own bodies". I mean hey, let's be tolerant here.

So wanting to pass laws to protect the innocent children who experiencing genocide in this country is using "force and violence"?

What on earth are you doing on Free Republic??? Mushy spineless "moderation" (the half-way house leading inevitably to the full sell out) is NOT conservatism. Can't find a mushy moderate website??? Wow, what a surprise!

Aren't 50+ million surgically sliced, diced and hamburgerized innocent babies and their ocean of innocent blood enough for you??? If you don't want to stop the slaughter, then don't pretend to be a Republican or even a sane "Independent."

If you really are an Independent, then whom the GOP House members choose as their leader or, for that matter, whom the Republican primary voters of Boehner's district select as the GOP nominee is none of YOUR business.

It is perfectly reasonable for Christians (by definition) to follow Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ was Our Savior and not a mere politician. God helps those who help themselves, however. It is also perfectly reasonable for American conservatives to emulate generals like George Washington, Andrew Jackson, Robert E. Lee, Stonewall Jackson, U. S. Grant, William Sherman, J. E. B. Stuart, Douglas MacArthur, George S. Patton, Jr., Curtis Lemay, Omar Bradley and Stormin' Norman Schwartzkopf in using force, violence and acts of war as necessary when determined to put a stop to the American Holocaust. If Planned Barrenhood doesn't like it, they can surrender like Saddam Hussein's elite troops. You don't like it? Tooooooo bad!

Glad to know that you are one less mush ball posing as Republican. The GOP seems a bit cleaner already. UpChuck Percy died today in an era when he could NEVER be nominated as a GOP Senate candidate. Lowell Weicker is about 81 years of age and weighs about 400 pounds. How far behind can he be??? Clifford Case, Charles Matthias, John Lindsay, and so many, many other fifth columnists in GOP drag are gone as well. That crowd only has a handful left: Snowe, Collins and Nancyboy Kirk. Such shame!!!

There are many other issues to be used against the gutless Bonehead and his Senate counterpart and the first of these is his/their craven capitulation on the raising of the debt limit, bullying of Tea Party freshmen, and general go along and get along attitude instead of scorching the da*n earth. He added $2.5 trillion to the election year allowance of Santa Obonzo to be laid upon Santa Obonzo's favorite groups like gummint labor unionists, gummint skewel "teachers," welfare queens and various criminals to be repaid with mucho interest by US taxpayers.

What on earth carnage could conservatives possibly inflict that would not be justified by the ending of the American Holocaust??? Maybe we ought to find out. 38 years of patience is a long, long time. When this war on the unborn has overturned Roe vs. Wade, it will also be a time to repay judicial tyranny and defang the SCOTUS and fedcourts once and for all.
