Why are we still arguing about this? Cheney’s OK, that’s all that matters.
I mean per this argument, obviously things are not OK for the attendees and their families.
So are you saying that I’m just making stuff up? I simply cut and pasted what my coworker sent on email. Lap count is not what’s important here.
We were there when Jimmy Leeward’s accident occurred about 100 feet away from the impact
We were lucky
Prayers up for the injured and the deceased
The kids would not have been in close vicinity to the crash. They are given general admission tickets. This crash occurred in the box seats in front of the reserved seating stands
We were 10 boxes away from impact (about 100 feet)
If there is a good thing about this is that it didn’t happen on Sunday when the venue is full
These planes are only pulling about 3 Gs on the course. Any more and they scrub off speed
I witnessed te whole thing and it looke like a wake upset started it. After that is anybody’s guess since it appears an elevator trim tab broke loose. Due to the wake? Dunno. Nobody knows except Jimmy.
Prayers up for the injured and deceased
I was there and the first thing I said to my wife was there are probably a hundred dead or more
The fact that this was a heat race, the last race of the day on a Friday people had already stated heading home. The box seats area was probably only at 30 percent capacity.
Had this been Sunday I shudder to think what would have happened.
Interestingly. At the news conference it was said over 100 medically trained people came out of the stands and started first aid on those that could be helped
A guy 2 boxes down from ours was receiving CPR from his box neighbors. We aren’t sure if he survived or not as we were escorted out quickly
Thankfully I guess a little luck fell our way.
Nevertheless, I suspect we’ve seen the end of air racing. Of course if you couple that with the NFL’s pronouncement about wanting every person searched from the ankles up, and I feel pretty certain that spectator sports probably only have a few decades left. After that it will all be television or pay per view.
And as someone who has been to both the Indy 500 and the Daytona 500, I can assure you that just as many could (and probably someday will) be killed at almost any car race. Not to mention the tempting target to a terrorist that 100k+ people jammed together presents. Combine all that with the nanny state mentality that life must have no risks, and the days of gatherings of huge groups of people are probably numbered.
