Debates are quite important. They allow the public to take measure of the challenger. Incumbents, even unpopular ones (Carter, both Bushes) usually lead in the polls until the debates, after which the public either decides that the challenger is acceptable or not.
Perry just needs to get sharper. I’m sure he can do it.

This is a poll taken before the CNN/Tea Party Express debate on 9/12. According to this and other polls I've seen, we're not going to have any post-debate poll results until sometime next week.

I was comparing these numbers to the last poll released the other day by CNN where Perry was at 30.
The only person in the race gaining is Newt Gingrich. Excited about that?
I am leaning Perry and I'm very much anti-Mitt and I agree with you.
After the first debate I thought Perry had been unprepared for several obvious questions and had answered poorly but I assumed he would get better right away.
In his second debate appearance he blew the same questions (immigration, Gardisil, social security) in the same way. No improvement. This is a huge problem.
We had eight years of a GOP President who couldn't defend himself in the face of criticism and we ended up with Obama, Reid, and Pelosi.
Team Perry needs to recognize that they are going to be facing relentless, hostile questioning from here on out and will never catch any sort of break and step their game way the heck up and now!
