The NY Daily NEWS is a surprise endorsement. Usually they are reliably leftie. With 3% of the vote counted, Turner leads 51 - 48%.

Turner, like Obama, has said the government will have to consider raising revenues to pay off a debt as large as the one burdening America. Looks like President Obama is getting a tax raising ally elected tonight.
To: neverdem
I think it’s official: Obama is absolutely destroying the Democrat party, and he has more than a year to finish the job! When the Daily News, Mayor Ed Koch, Mayor Giuliani, and voters of a heavily Jewish blue New York district prefer a Republican, what can one say? I was wondering if the Democrat Party could say or do anything repugnant enough to make Jewish voters vote Republican.

Not necessarily, theres more than one way to raising revenues than raising taxes. Like Marco Rubio says, we need more taxpayers. Raising taxes during the Great Recession isn't the smart thing to do!

More taxpayers is the same as raising taxes, taking more from private hands and giving it to government.

Geez, this guy is running in a solidly Democrat area and you guys are grousing about whether he might allow for some tax increases, if he ever does when actually in office? And he’s only in office for 1 year as his district will be out of business when redistricting takes place. What in heaven’s name do you expect in such a district, a hardcore conservative? Geez. Be realistic here. He’s very pro-Israel, is pro-life, and that in itself is a huge plus. Sometimes I wonder where some Freeper’s brains are located.

I admit that a pro-life rep from NYC is something not often seen and is to be cheered.

The answer is cutting down the spending, both non defense and defense, that’s the only way to grow the economy which is only ultimate solution.

If you mean growth to enrich people to the point where there's spmething to tax, I’m with you. I suppose I’m just sensitive to the implication that people who have less income are freeloaders because of the income tax situation. there are plenty of taxes such as property taxes and regressive sales taxes that burden less wealthy workers.
To: Colonel Kangaroo
Property taxes and sales taxes all go to the state, not the federal government. As far as the federal government goes, those who get goodies from the federal government but pay no income taxes are in fact freeloaders with the exception of social security which is a forced Ponzi scheme.
