I wonder why the returns were so slow to start coming in earlier tonight?

Then, they started coming in very quickly.

I wonder if they saw that the election was not close enough to try to manipulate the numbers?

Somebody once said that, if it’s not close, they can’t cheat. And that is true in elections. If you can get a big enough margin, then you will win with no protests, recounts, or lawsuits. It’s when there’s a narrow margin that shenanigans happen.

In a district which is 3-1 Democrat, clearly many Democrats abandoned their party.

I’m sure the White House will say that this was NOT any sort of referendum on Obama.

Turner got 40% last time, so they were already voting 3-2. Registration does not mean as much here as it does in other places. People register Dem to vote in the Dem primary. In fact it’s a cliche that “the real election is in September.”

Plus Weiner has been campaigning to the left of his district for quite a while, since he was hoping for mayor. His district is more conservative than the city as a whole.
