I knew that there was a relatively large Orthodox Jewish community in places like Crown Heights , but didn’t think the % was very substantial in the areas of Brooklyn inc. in District 9 like Midwood , Gerristen Bay and Sheapshead Bay for example .

Midwood is heavily Orthodox.

Gerittsen Beach is mostly Roman Catholic.

The NY 9 statistics are interesting. I read that Gore got 67% of the vote there but 0bama took it with only 55. I wonder if redistricting in 2000 took out some Democrat voters. I see it also has a black population of only 4% so this might help Turner.
Lieberman got 67%. A lot of Jews who vote Republican voted for Lieberman over Bush.

Mill Basin is a good neighborhood.

The mansions some of the wealthier Russian emigres live in are a little too garish for my taste, but otherwise it's a nice area.

A delightful gem from DailyKos, re the Jewish voters in NY-9: “I can almost start to understand anti-semetism and all the horrible things done to Jews over the years when I see the Hassidim (they should be banned from voting).”

If the Jewish community turns against O over Israel, expect things to get very ugly among the hard Left and the black community.
