I hope you are correct. If we pull this one off, Chuckie Schumer’s old seat, it will be a hoot.

I am a Native New Yorker, and it pains me to think what has happened to that State. I now live In California, so unfortunately for me, I'm two for two.

Needless to say, my Faith in the Electorate is at a very low ebb. I hope this Election, and the General Election in 2012, will bring my Faith back to Reagan era levels.

Fred Dicker of the NY Post was a guest on Don Imus' radio show this morning. Dicker has covered New York State politics for years, and his take on this special election and the circumstances surrounding David Weprin's selection to run for the Democrats was almost comical.

Apparently Weprin is known in Democratic political circles as a complete hack, and he was selected to run for this seat for two basic reasons: (1) he had a lot of name recognition in the district that would help minimize the need to spend ad money, and (2) he had a safe career in state politics, so he wouldn't have a problem taking a Congressional seat for about a year until the district is gerrymandered out of existence (New York loses two House seats next year, and this is likely to be one of them).

Sounds like they really had an ambitious plan there, eh?

Update 9:20 p.m. – Is it possible we may not get a winner in NY-9 tonight after all? Our Jonathan Lemire reports: Bob Turner’s campaign filed for – and received – a court order to impound all absentee ballots, citing “gross incompetence” by the Board of Elections. Turner’s lawyers charged that absentee …

“The suddenly intense interest surrounding Turner’s candidacy was on full display Tuesday, when he cast his ballot at a Breezy Point polling station. As he walked outside of a Catholic mass on his way to the polls, Turner was swarmed by a horde of jostling camera crews and reporters. It was a different story for Weprin, who upon his arrival at a Forest Hills senior center was met by a single camera crew and a few print reporters. Weprin, a state assemblyman who does not live in the district, did not vote. “

That is awesome! LOL. The sad part is the number of people who will still be voting for Weprin even though they couldn’t pick him out of a line-up, even if their life depended on it.

..... Turner’s lawyers charged that absentee ballots were sent to dead people and voters who didn’t ask for them. The campaign claimed at least five dead people were issued ballots.

The order, filed this afternoon, will only apply to paper ballots and be applied when the election results are certified.

(Just a little assist here)
