Poppy abandoned the Reagan Legacy and went liberal. He lost to Clinton who ran to the right of him in speeches. No Ross Perot was not the cause. GHW Bush lost it on his own.
Next came 1996. Bob Dole and a bunch of North Eastern Liberals ran a Big Tent Freak Show which turned the stomachs of many in the party. His race was not even close. Then came GW Bush. Here is a simple fact many ignore. Had Al Gore not been tainted with Clinton scandals Bush would not have even come close to winning. Bush was the man who in 2000 said he and Mr. Gore were not that far apart on issues. Bush thumbed his nose at conservatives especially social conservatives and instead listened to his mentor Gerald Ford who stated about conservatives " where else can they go". Bush didn't do that great in the 2004 election either.
Then comes Arch RINO McCain. Any conservative should have been able to take on Obama and debate point for point the conservative plan. McCain all but endorsed Obama toward the general election. No indeed I do not trust establishment liberal GOP. They have a long standing record of selling Conservatism out. It's a sad commentary about the GOP that even with two house majority and a GOP POTUS the GOP could not and would not get it's act together. The results we now live with. The GOP went far away from Conservatism and even Constitutional bounds from 2001-2008.
Conservatism WINS the 1994 elections showed as much. It is when the party abandons Conservatism it looses.
