Glenn Becks new show launches today on his web network, GBTV, and the Wall Street Journal finds signs that this model holds promise. For one thing, Beck already has more paying subscribers than Oprah Winfreys OWN cable network did in June.
Because Mr. Beck owns the show and the network, he could make substantially more than the $2.5 million salary he got each year at Fox. GBTV is on track to take in more than $20 million in revenue in its debut year, according to a person close to the company. The television industry will be watching closely to see whether the TV host can preserve his popularity while migrating to the Web, where efforts to get consumers to pay to watch online-only channels are just beginning.
When Mr. Beck announced GBTV in June, the network had 80,000 subscribers. In the months since, GBTV subscribers have swelled to more than 230,000, according to people close to the network, even though Mr. Beck's show hasn't yet begun.

I wouldn’t know, so I’ll just take your word on that.
Yeah...that 1984 series got me in a lot of trouble. Still; rather see Tigers than either the Yankees or the Red Sox. Matter of fact; I will be tickled pink if the Tampa Bay Rays knock the Sox out of the playoff picture. (Oh, pleeeeeeeease...) Rays are 3.5 behind the Roid Sox, and they are winning again tonight. Go, Rays!!!
They said the Tigers would be finished when they went up against the Yankees in 06 but the tigers make quick work of them.
Unfortunately they then had that 12 day wait while National League dragged on before the world series.
Roku also has a rewatch option.
I had things to do, so the *commercials*, such as they are, were welcome as a time I could leave the room.
We cancelled st TV in June. Do not miss it. Got a Roku2 and we watch a lot of Netflix streaming. FNC is on streaming segments 9-3 EST. FNS is on the next day. There are a series of 2 minute cooking clips on CHOW. A Sailing channel. Multiple other movies channels, sports, music. We haven’t even begun to explore the channels and they add new ones all the time and the existing ones seem to be changing format. Some are subscription, some are free. Rumor is Netflix will begin some original programming offered on Roku. Maybe even season 2 of The Event.
We now pay $27/mo for in-home entertainment, as opposed to $70. I may cut us back to 1 DVD at a time from Netflix and we will be spending $22/mo.
Probably harder to convince kids or a spouse who has to see something they like when it is first broadcast.
Same here. I wasn’t able to watch tonight, hope he does the same level of research as in the past.
My age is showing, how do you get BBTV? Internet, subscription option for DirecTV or Dish?
If it’s internet, I’m SOL, even though I have DSL my connection is SSSSLLLLLLOOOOOOOWWWWWW.
Looks like internet...a shame for many of us; since I really like the tone of the new show...some decent clips on his ‘Blaze’ website...Muslims will NOT be happy.
I really wish Glenn just stayed put in his 5pm Fox News TV slot, exercising a "premium member" option for those who want to watch him online or via a Roku, smart phone or iPad. I have none of those things at the moment. I'll get around to getting them eventually I suppose (not sure about the Roku thingie).
Glenn has really alienated an entire segment of his rabid fans - older than me - who will never learn to use these devices.
I would LOVE to see that! :-)
Of course, first I have to figure out a way to watch Glenn's network. It may be awhile before I get around to that...
I wish Fox would bring on Mark Steyn to take Beck’s 5 o’clock spot.
