A large swath of San Diego County was without power Thursday afternoon as officials investigated the cause of the outage.

Why do people slow down and gawk at a car crash in the opposite lane of the highway?
Same reason...

Dunno if that’s already posted, but apparently a squirrel fell onto the lines from AZ to CA and everything went kaflooey (sp?).
What I find astonishing: CA actually needs AZ for ANYTHING?
I thought AZ’s immigration policies are SO reprehensibly non-progressive that CA wants NOTHING to do with AZ.
Guess CA needs to work on that divorce from AZ, eh? I means if CA wants to be teachin’ AZ a lesson or two, ya knows?
LMAOROFL
I mean that nicely.
Just reported—Nat’l Guard either already being deployed or on stand by to deploy. The reporterette said BOTH of those things, so who knows which is true:

Someone listening to news said 5 million without power.
I’m reading this TB2 thread, partway down (on page 2, it’s up to 3 pp) is a photo of the border crossing. Pitch dark. (Note that they are not strict about messing with headlines...)
Thanks ... Appreciate they are taking this situation seriously. Praying for calm and no movement.
I hope all good people stay safe. Makes me really glad I live in a very remote rural location.
I am on a plane right now heading to palm springs, family emergency, is there power there???
Oh, oh, I see how you racist little bastige is. You plug that thing back in IF you know what’s good for ya.
Otherwise communities THROUGHOUT CA will issue edicts of condemnation against you and your AZ kind, o.k.?
If you KNOW what’s good for you, YOU PLUG THAT BACK IN, o.k?
Please?
Rumor or fact on another thread. Do not know. Report of threat is coming from Pakistan.
affirmative.
I know exactly where you are coming from. Judge Greene did no one no favors. He simply set in motion a situation with will be similar to the Cali power grid. The bust up of Ma Bell cost jobs. You can plan installations, upgrades, etc but you can not plan when equipment will fail. Ma Bell was operating under laws few people understand. If you lived miles from phone service and requested it Bell had to run it at their cost. Bell had to run service to anyone who requested it and at Bells cost. Try that one with a power utility. They will go two poles in most cases then you pay dearly thereafter.
Ma Bell once ran on the principle of clearing trouble in hours not weeks. You called in a trouble and a person likely in a town or city near you took the trouble and it was locally dispatched. If the trouble office was closed the operator took it and depending on the priority would get it dispatched. The office knew if cable on Route 66 going out of town was cut and responded and stayed till it was fixed. You call today and you get an automated boondoggle from whatever city and an automated estimated of repair time.
Money generated by Bell before the break up was going into R&D through Bell Labs and upgrades were made. If ESS had not happened before the break up it may not have happened at all. For those who do not know the term ESS is Electronic Switching Service. That is what eliminated operator assisted calls. That is also what gave us many of the features like Ring Master, speed call, call waiting, forwarding, etc.
The crews have been either laid off or retired. There is no investing in infrastructure anymore. 15 years ago I could not go town without seeing at least several Ma Bell trucks or vans. Today they are rare. Equipment upgrades even more rare. They won't even run new cable unless there is no other option. If people don't think it matters waith till a tornado or hurricane passes through or an ice storm. Ma Bell used to roll caravans to hit areas.
I kid you not on this one. A tree fell on the cable feeding my road which is an Aeriel one and cut it into. I called it in and in a couple of days a guy comes out and splices it back together and leaves it laying on the ground near the pedestal in a flood zone. Another one they did my dad the same way. The drop to his house was bad and a two pole run. They ran it across the field and creek and it laid there several months. That would have probably gotten someone fired under original Bell policies.
You don't see cable splicers anymore either. If a pair is bad they find another and thats the end of it. Nothing is getting repaired anywhere near the standards of what Bell once operated under.
In all fairness too consumers Bell did have some policies that needed modified but the break up was a mistake that is going to come back and bite us. The only way Bell could keep the infrastructure going was by the way it was set up which was more or less like a utility.
Wouldn't want to be that dude. Long meeting. No donuts.
They said that. The CEO of SDG&E was on a radio station and he said the line was severed. The hosts clarified with him that he did NOT mean cut but that service had been interrupted.
Thanks buddy, were starting our decent and I see lights, lol
Good ... Stay Safe FRiend.
My Hubbie's at work in San Diego right now.. went into work to provide extra security checks and make sure people in their facility are getting assistance, keeping people calm. Just like his Daddy would do!
That’s an interesting espose`, but CA has a MUCH bigger prollem than Bell: water. You guys in CA have NO idear just HOW precarious your water supply is. EVERYTHING you said ‘bout Bell is Royal Full Straight Flush (in spades) concerning the greater CA water supply.
I believe that a national water policy should be 3rd on the list for any conservative Presidential candidate.
IF that issue is not grabbed by the bull SOON...
Squirrel??? That’s what supposedly started that huge blackout in the East a few years ago. The one that two weeks later to the day, another one happened some place in Europe. And another 2 weeks later, another one in another place.
