I’ve done a little more research since this post - and someone else had provided a description of the relative forces.
Turkey has a huge advantage in surface warfare combatants, while Israel has a large advantage in the air with both more and higher quality fighters. F15’s versus F4’s ain’t a fair fight.
The Israelis are going to have to cause the Turks to be the first to shoot - after that is taken care of, I suspect their air force will be the deciding factor - but they’ll take heavy losses. The Turkish military knows what they are walking into. They’ve had very long ties with the Israeli military. It would be a major brawl.
The Turkish military, bridling under islamic commissars, might take moves to attack Israel as their cue to coup.
Wouldn’t be the first time the Turkish military has “stepped in.” Even after the recent purging of the generals, there are plenty of other officers who understand the score.
If Israel and Turkey got into a hot war, surely the other arabs in the neighborhood would seize the opportunity to try and destroy Israel. It would be Israels most serious threat to date. I think though, Turkey is just bluffing to look good to the neighborhood muslims. They want to be perceived as top dog over Iran, and threatening Israel sadly wins hearts and minds.
