As infuriating as Palin’s allegiance to McCain has been, I believe, had she turned her back on the person who elevated her to the national stage - she would have damaged her credibility as a person of solid, simple principles.
Loyalty, is way, way up on the list of important principles.

Honor and honesty should be “way, way up on the list of important principles”, not loyalty. Loyalty leads very smart people to do very stupid things.
Align yourself with honorable people and you never have to worry about loyalty.
