Super PAC backing Rick Perry to spend $55 million to beat rivals, documents reveal

The new super PAC backing Rick Perry has drawn up plans to spend $55 million as part of an ambitious campaign strategy aimed at blowing away the Texas governor's rivals in early primary states and securing him the Republican nomination by next spring, according to internal committee documents obtained by NBC News.

The documents underscore the central role that such super PACs — or super political action committees unconstrained by any limits on how much they can collect from wealthy donors and corporations — will play in the 2012 presidential election.

They also show that the strategists behind the new Perry super PAC, led by a longtime Perry confidant and backed with infusions of cash from major Perry donors, are preparing to mount a full service political operation — complete with TV advertising, direct mail and social media outreach.

If it realizes its goals, the super PAC — which calls itself "Make Us Great Again" — will likely eclipse the financial operations of Perry's official presidential campaign committee, according to some Republican consultants.

This looks like an anti-Perry thread. What does it have to do with Palin, unless Palin supporters want to admit your strategy is to elevate Palin by tearing down Perry. Why?

Some of us have NOT yet decided... but Perry supporters are sure NOT helping his campaign. Right now I am trying to discern who or what or maybe both made Perry change him mind about running for president.... This thread does give some helpful hints.... Now run along and demonstrate your UGLY demeanor.

The only reason I respond on here is to help set the record straight. Lies and distortions are being said about Perry. For the record, what I care about is defeating Obama, with whichever one of our people is the most likely to get the job done, if it’s Perry, Palin, or whomever. I don’t care—just get ‘er done!! We aren’t going to get it done this way.

The worst person in the world to deceive is oneself. YOUR posts demonstrate that first and foremost you are against Sarah... At least be honest.

Crony capitalism in action---Rick Perry---already bought and paid for.

VR follow me on this...

if we have 2 million Tea Partiers / Freepers giving 25 bucks a piece to Sarah, that is 50 million to go mano-e-mano in the typical arena.

IMHO the day she announces Pay-Pal what ever system will no keep up and crash. My guess 40 million her 1st day in donations...

I’m perfectly happy to have Palin as our nominee if she is the one to take out Obama. What do you think?

Haven’t you heard? Every thread that doesn’t praise Governor Perry is an anti-Perry thread.

We’re not supposed to learn anything about the newest entry into the GOP primaries. Never mind vetting the man or learning about the wealthy persons (dare I say cronies?) helping to fund his campaign or create a separate PAC for him.

We’re all just supposed to take the Governor at face value.

Sorry, it doesn’t work that way. Never has on Free Republic.

There’s really no need to get mean and vicious about it. If the man is squeaky clean and Tea Party conservative, he’ll stand up to all the scrutiny and we will all be the better for it.

If he doesn’t then we will all be better for that, too.

Who wants surprises from democrats, October and otherwise?

I do not know yet. I am trying to educated myself by learning about all these people who are asking for my vote. I will tell you one thing right up front. I have 'big time' issues with the Governor of Texas, saying less than a year ago that he was NOT going to run for president and suddenly as a flood he has changed his mind.

I also know what condition Ronald Reagan left this nation in at the end of his two terms, and it really bothers me that some Texas democrat got himself in the position to be algore's advance man. Algore coming from TN had to at least pretend to be some what 'righteous' to get elected but in his heart of hearts he was NOT opposed to the advancement of soviet style communism... NOT one democrat was and the whole bunch of them forced President GHWB to cash in on the so called 'peace' dividend and strip our military.

and I say “it’s about time” that corporations started spending some money to protect their (ie, our) freedom...
___________________________________________________________

Could you really be that naive?

Corporations spend a ton of money, mostly on democrats in the last few elections. Always to garner special tax breaks or to erect barriers to entry, or bail outs or tariffs or subsidies or many many other things having nothing to do with our freedom.

Where the heck to you think Obama got all that campaign money???

Thank you, trisham.

I’ve never seen anything quite like this and it saddens me.

I started out trying to ask questions to learn about Governor Perry, because Governor Palin had endorsed him over KayBaileyH and Debra Ron Paul Medina, when Perry really needed the TEA PARTY vote and her help in his reelection.

I was met with the nastiest posts imaginable for daring to ask questions and was told to “get on board now because Palin is playing her supporters, never intends to run, can’t win, etc.” Wow.

The very last thing our beloved, conservative forum needs is a blow-up over Perry when he’s the new comer, which dictates that a lot of articles will be about him, both positive and negative, with the truth likely found somewhere in between, or maybe in each.

We all know flame bait when we see it and “Palin can’t win” is flame bait.

Likewise, I think “Perry is the only one who can win” is flame bait.

I remember the polls from Labor Day ‘07 and you might recall that President Guiliani was leading by 27%, followed by the newcomer VP Fred Thompson.

The eventual nominee, McCain had a paltry 8%, which just happens to be the same percentage NON-declared candidate Palin has in that idiot Faux poll, although she beats all the other declared candidates, save for the two front runners.

As I watched the "debate" from SC yesterday, I told my friends, I do not care which one of ours replaces Obama--just so one of them gets the job done. They all looked and sounded far superior to Obama.

Right now, I'm a Perry person because contrary to what some are trying to convey, Perry has a pretty darned good record. Right now we need jobs and TX has been able to create them where other states have been losing them.

Polls also show Perry to be in the strongest position to take out Obama. I don't care about the other issues, we don't have the luxury.
