I have no idea what Carson City is like now, but in the 1970s I lived on Franktown Road, between Carson City and Reno- did my shopping in Carson City and it was a quiet town. I don’t remember any crime to speak of at the time and for sure not serious crime. I guess it only takes one nut to do something like this and it could happen anywhere.

According to RGJ, it’s sounding more like a terrorist attack. Guy gets out of van and shoots guy off motorcycle, then goes in IHOP blazing away. Comes out and shoots more in parking lot and into a casino across the way, and in various shops around there...Messed up.
10:30 a.m. update: Lt. Rob Van Diest of the Reno Police Department said one person has been confirmed dead.
Four victims have been transported to Carson-Tahoe Hospital in Carson City. Three of them are in surgery.
Four victims were transported to Renown Regional Medical Center, two in critical condition and two with less-serious injuries
At least eight were shot and the gunman was carrying a semi-automatic weapon, The Record-Courier reports. “Several people were killed,” according to the Carson City Sheriff’s Department.

Fox is saying some of the dead are national guardsmen.
[Updated at 2:18 p.m.] At least two of the victims killed at a shooting in a Carson City, Nevada, IHOP restaurant were military members who were wearing their uniforms, Chuck Allen with the Nevada Highway Patrol said Tuesday.
Allen said police were still looking to find the shooter’s possible motive but said regardless officials were taking precautions in case military personnel were being targeted.
“When you have people in uniform randomly targeted ... we take that seriously,” Allen said.

In Tennessee, you can get a carry permit. Several restaurants in Knoxville posted a no weapons allowed sign in retaliation (please, don’t get me started). I wonder if that particular IHOP has a no weapons policy? If this is the case, then all I have to say is, “Hey, IHOP, the only people who follow your stupid no weapons allowed rules are the law abiding types and they aren’t the ones you have to worry about”! If this isn’t the case, I take it all back.
Can’t really say I’m surpassed by this, what with the President just off the stage -— and without saying in repudiation of some union thug was exhorting his brown-shirts to violence.
