Such a President would have to have Rumsfeld’s disposition and find a general officer with the personality of the late General Barrow who was Commandant of the Marine Corps in the 1980’s. Unfortunately the typical 4 star today is more like General Jones who was CMC before becoming BO’s strawman National Security Adviser. Look both of these men up on Wikipedia and note the titles of the positions they held. Jones endless string of bureaucratic horse holder jobs is nauseating. The milicrats populating many high level positions are a big part of the problem. Had there been a real explosion of rage from the Go/FO community it is probable spineless Adm Mullen would have not been willing to lead the charge for BO and the DADT would have gone on the back burner for more ‘study’. What few here grasp is how rotten the upper levels of the military have become since the end of the Cold War. The combination of 8 years of Clinton and the lack of any large heavily armed adversary has allowed a particularly poisonous kind of risk aversive PC oriented careerism to corrupt the service staffs. Getting rid of this culture of corruption will be as difficult as getting rid of the gay friendly military we are headed fir.
you describe a mercenary military which is exactly what we should fear the most.....when people talk about expanding benefits or pay etc for the military, I question whether were just making it more attactive for hangers-on to stay in....the kinds that couldn't do a job on the outside.....
we better get our act together....
I am assuming now that we have a majority in Congress that the pubs will find and appoint strong minded men into the academies...
we need a new breed of leaders that's for sure...
