Fox News Suspends Gingrich and Santorum, Citing Conflict of Interest
On Tuesday Gingrich, having initially told several news agencies that he would formally launch a presidential exploratory committee Thursday in Atlanta, had to backtrack from the report later in the day. The bizarre turnabout was due to legal concerns regarding his various income streams, Politico reported. Gingrich allies told the website that he will announce his intention to run as soon as all his legal issues have been resolved. Brandi added that Santorum had told the network he planned to participate in the upcoming Republican primary debates. "That leads us to believe he is seriously considering running," she said. Notably, the suspensions did not include two other Fox News contributors who are believed to be mulling a bid for the Republican nomination -- former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee. "As soon as each of them shows some serious intention to form an exploratory committee, we would take the same action," Brandi told the Times. "Huckabee is on a book tour, so I think his present intention is to sell books." When asked about Palin, Brandi said: "She hasn't yet shown a serious intention to form an exploratory committee." The Times reported that Gingrich, a contributor since 1999, currently makes "nearly $1 million a year." Palin makes $1 million a year, Huckabee earns "around $500,000 a year," and Santorum makes "a little under $100,000 a year." "We can't have Speaker Gingrich on our payroll while he is in the midst of an exploratory committee to see if he's going to run for office," she said. "It's a clear conflict."
Understood. But also consider that she already has hadreps/people in all the states now for some time. The formalized ExCom isn’t a requirement and she said her potential campaign would be wholly unconventional.
Just to avoid confusion, I can understand why people think she isn’t running looking at it from a traditional perspective. My rebuttal is that doubters need to do two things. Look at her former campaigns (hers, not McCains) and read Sun Tzu.
