Perry has had more than a few debates running for governor, so I assume they weren’t talking about “never debated”, but about not having been in one of the presidential primary debates. Palin didn’t do that in 2008 either, as she wasn’t a candidate before McCain picked her.

She did well against Biden, and from what I’ve heard she did well in her governor debates.

Yes, perhaps Rick Perry stole some thunder that day. I remember hearing some of those up in Iowa were a little tiffed that he was not up there beforehand, most deciding to forgive him when he was there later though. It probably did steal some of Bachmann’s presence there though, and the Perry write ins definitely took some of her votes which is probably why she did not do anywhere as well as expected, a much smaller lead at that time than one would have thought the days before.

As for doing well in the debate, I’m remembering poll after poll that put Newt Gingrich as the perceived winner of that debate, and consequently he did rise some in numbers right after that as Michele Bachmann lessened.

And while this last paragraph is not scientific, I was here at FR for the debate follow up threads, and very few felt Michele Bachmann did well at all in that last debate. Granted, she showed extremely well in the first one, but she did not pull off the second one very well if one would see or hear all the posts after post coming here to Free Republic after that last debate. In fact, most here thought she looked very unprofessional doing the cock fighting with Tim Pawlente. Granted, the moderators set them both up for that, but she (and HE too) took the bait. For Pawlente, he lost so much he had to pull out. For Bachmann, she simply lost enough support to notice.

Perry is the GOP version of Obama.

Over-hyped, Under-vetted, the object of blind worship, pushing government health solutions on the citizens, seeking to take over transportation, a large government slush fund for promoting preferred businesses, willing to sell sensitive industries to China, with questionable ties to Muslims, promoting pro-choice candidates in 2008, and with dubious allegiances to other countries.

There are only two things Perry has going for him:

Cheers!

That's one of the things I like about Sarah—she does it HER way and pays no mind to either the professional nor amateur pundits.
Her detractors desperately and disingenuously assign negative motives to her behavior all the while hanging on her every statement and action like half starved lice—manipulated and frustrated, her opponents can't help but fixate on her every bit as much as her supporters do.
The woman is a genius and if she runs she wins and if she doesn't she wins—returning to a peaceful family life she probably misses as a retired national figure.

I take from it that Cain, like Bachmann, and Paul, have never won statewide office. None of them should be running for president. If they want to be president, run for governor and prove yourself.

Really? How could the media have chosen “months” ago someone who only got in a few weeks ago? And I though the media chose Romney?

Also, if you look at some of the op-eds, Perry is getting savaged. Sounds like the media is pretty scared of him to me. How does that equate to “choosing him?” Where are all the Perry puff-pieces that would indicate that?

Well, the difference is that Bachmann and Paul have made politics their career. Cain has had other priorities.

I think your timing is off. The Ed Rollins thing happened back in June, and some Palin people were going balistic over it more that a month before the straw poll. The most likely thing is Bachmann’s support just wasn’t that deep (assuming this poll is right). BTW, I was leaning to Michele at the time of the straw poll, now I’m leaning toward Perry. But I don’t see any reason to commit to anyone at this point. I personally don’t think Sarah is running, but we’ll see.

Under-vetted? The guy has been elected Governor three times. And I can think of a lot more that 2 things he has going for him.

10 reasons I like Rick Perry

10. In 2009, Gov. Rick Perry received the Defender of Jerusalem Award, given to public figures who have demonstrated support and commitment to the state of Israel and its capitol, Jerusalem. The governor accepted the award while on his trip to Israel, where he also met with Israeli President Shimon Peres, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and business and academic leaders.

9. Perry supports building the F22. He recently noted that when Obama canceled the program the rational was that China would not have similar capability (the J-20) until 2025, or 2020 at the earliest. Now it is set to be deployed in 2017,

8. Calls for a full and open audit of the Federal Reserve.

7. Signed loser pays law for lawsuits found frivolous by a judge.

6. Has enforced the death penalty more than any other governor in history. Texas has executed 50 poachers of human life in the last three years. When they give the death sentance in Texas, they mean it.

5. Perry is solidly pro-life.

4. Perry is a veteran Air Force pilot who gave five years of his life in the service of his country. He understands firsthand military culture and the sacrifices all members of the Armed Forces make in service to their country.

3. Perry is skeptical about the man-made global warming scam, which is being used by the warmists to call for the largest worldwide transfer of wealth in history, via UN carbon taxes on industrialized countries. He understands how devastating cap and trade would be for our economy.

2. Perry is a trong 2nd Amendment supporter, gun owner, and NRA member.

1. Helped Texas to become ranked the most business friendly state in the country (California is dead last).Half the jobs created recently in the entire USA were in Texas. Over the decade between April 2001 and April 2011, more than 730,000 private sector jobs were created in the Lone Star State. During that same stretch of time, the next-best state added just over 90,000 and the nation as a whole lost 2.2 million.
